The University of Miami Hospital Peri Op Department has an exciting opportunity for a Per Diem Sr. Central Supply Technician .


The responsibility of the individual in this role is to ensure safe and effective levels of practice and measurable competency standards.


Prioritize, prepare, assemble, and sterilize instrument trays for daily and ongoing surgical needs. Following the established manufacturer instructions for use. Documenting sterilization parameters and functions. Servicing Ancillary department's sterilization needs.


Act as a preceptor when needed to assist new staff.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS




Education:



High School or Equivalent


Central Service or Surgical Technician Program



Certification and Licensing:



Hold one of the following certifications.


CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) IAHCSMM


CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician) CBSPD


CST (Certified Surgical Technician) NBSTSA



Experience:



Two or more years of experience in Surgical or Central Sterile Processing department.



Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:



  • Microbiology

  • Anatomy and Physiology

  • Medical Terminology

  • Sterile Technique

  • Regulatory Requirements

  • Basic computer knowledge including Windows, Word, Excel

  • Ability to multi task

  • Demonstrate professional customer service skills

  • Written and verbal communication skills






Department Specific Functions



Clean, disinfect, decontaminate surgical instrumentation. Clean, disinfect, decontaminate medical equipment. Operate Sterilizers, Washer Disinfector, Endoscope Reprocessor, Ultrasonic machine and prepare HLD solution (high-level disinfectant). Use Universal precautions PPE (personal protection equipment) as required. Perform daily equipment, cleaning, testing and document results. Maintain and store sterilizer documentation records. Follow instrument count sheets and photos for assembly. Assemble, inspect and prepare instruments for proper sterilization methods. Utilize provided resources to follow IFU (Instructions for use) to ensure patient safety. Choose appropriate wrapper size and label items designated for wrapping method. Choose appropriate container and accessories for instrument trays. Perform quality assurance checks on trays and wrappers. Report to shift manager and/or designee any malfunctions or discrepancies immediately. Clean assigned workstation at start of shift. Restock workstation supplies at end of shift. Assist with department rounding when needed. Provide professional customer service to all departments' requests. Retrieve used medical equipment from departments. Adhere to infection control and utilize universal precautions. PPE (personal protection equipment) protocols. Decontaminate and prepare equipment for redistribution. Check equipment for functionality. Contact Clinical Engineering for malfunctioning equipment. Prepare and distribute supply request orders. Stock and prepare emergency floor carts. Maintain distribution of equipment and supplies records. Maintain sterile supplies according to facility policy and procedure. Answer phone in professional courteous manner. Fulfill phone order request for supplies and equipment. Return all unused supplies and equipment to shelves. Document and credit supply returns. Communicate with OR clinicians for preference sheet verification. Prepare OR surgical case carts and maintain sterility. Maintain storage of sterile surgical instrumentation. Maintain logbooks. Give shift report to oncoming staff. Able to perform other duties and responsibilities as requested.
