The Staff Accountant II will be primarily responsible for general ledger accounts including basic and routine transactions and reconciliations. The position will work with the supervisor to gain understanding of impact to financial statements of assigned accounts and journal entries. The Accountant II will understand and perform internal controls in compliance with established policies and procedures and maintain an understanding of GAAP and SAP that is applicable to assigned area(s).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • 35% Responsible for all assigned general ledger accounts including basic and routine transactions, reconciliations and account maintenance. Prepares journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation.

  • 30% Understands and analyzes data in appropriate context.

  • 10% Prepares or assists with preparation of a variety of financial reports or portions of financial reports on assigned basis of accounting or audience (GAAP, SAP, management).

  • 10% Understands assigned accounts and General Ledger database structure. Can extract/report General Ledger data for assigned area(s) and write financial reports.

  • Secondary Duties:

  • 5% Responsible for performance and documentation of accounting policies and procedures for assigned area(s).

  • 5% Assist internal and external auditors, state examiners, and taxing authorities, as applicable, by providing appropriate documentation and support when requested.

  • 5% Participates in the execution of special projects as directed.


  • B.S. degree (Accounting or Finance) from an accredited institution required.

  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, insurance experience preferred.

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, & Word required.

  • Experience with database General Ledger software required.

  • Excellent organization, communication and interpersonal skills required.

  • Analytical skills, problem resolution and math skills required.

  • Must be able to work independently.

  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 10 lbs.
