GENERAL SUMMARY:



The operations coordinator reports to and works under the direction of the Principal Investigator, performs management responsibilities in a research laboratory, including fiscal/budget management, grant management, supervision of staff activities, inventory management, ordering of supplies, helping prepare letters of recommendation, preparation of reimbursements for the Principal Investigator and other laboratory staff, and aiding in on-boarding new students and post-docs.


The position is within the Karp Lab, which is a part of the Center for Nanomedicine, Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. The lab aims to rapidly advance biomedical technologies through a multidisciplinary approach. A major focus of our research group is to develop technologies that can be rapidly translated to the clinic to improve the quality of life of suffering patients. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:




  • Supervises operation of the laboratory, including overseeing the use of laboratory funds, supply inventory and staff activities.

  • In conjunction with Investigator, assists with lab personnel management including hiring, firing, performance evaluation, orientation and training. Ensures proper on-boarding procedures are followed for students, staff, fellows and faculty. Works closely with Division Education Program Manager and Partners Office for International Professionals and Students (PIPS) for on-boarding of international personnel.

  • Responsible for financial management of research lab in conjunction with Division Grants Manager. Develops budgets, analyzes trends, prepares reimbursements, produces reports. Participates in coordinating the administrative aspects of the grant proposals.

  • Manages agreements for the laboratory including material transfer agreements (MTA) and clinical trial agreements (CTA).

  • Responsible for the coordination of all regulatory and compliance activities for the lab including lab safety.

  • Responsible for formatting and submitting letters of recommendation.

  • Coordinates lab events including dinners, lunches, lab tours, etc.

  • Arranges travel for lab members. Responsible for submitting and tracking all reimbursements for Principal Investigator

  • All other duties as assigned.





  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS:



    BS required and a minimum of 4 years of related work experience.



    SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:





    • Must be able to make independent, effective decisions in appropriate situations.

    • Ability to effectively supervise others.

    • Excellent organizational skills to ensure smooth functioning of lab.

    • Must possess aptitude for budget management.

    • High level of computer literacy.

    • Must be flexible and have excellent problem-solving skills.
