What we do:
The Markets Group of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York implements monetary policy on behalf of the Federal Reserve System and acts as fiscal agent for the U.S. Treasury. The Treasury Markets (TM) Directorate is responsible for monitoring and executing transactions in the U.S. government securities market.

The Liquidity and Market Structure staff, in addition to contributing to the daily implementation of Treasury market operations, has both analytical and operational responsibilities related to the liquidity and structure of the Treasury Market. It conducts extensive analytical work on fixed-income markets, with a particular focus on Treasury bills, FRNs, STRIPS, futures, specials, and liquidity and market functioning. On the operational front, the LMS team is responsible for Treasury purchases, Rollovers, Securities Lending, Customer Trades and Treasury Buyback operations.

The Liquidity and Market Structure staff is looking for Treasury Markets Associate. You will produce in-depth analysis on domestic interest rate markets and play a key role in the staff's operational responsibilities.

Your role as Treasury Markets Associate:


  • Analyze and report on developments in the Treasury market, relating to expectations for monetary policy, inflation, and the effects of fiscal policy decisions;
  • Prepare written and verbal briefings for senior policy makers on fixed-income markets and monetary policy;
  • Help design and execute open market operations in the Treasury market;
  • Execute Treasury purchases, rollovers, SOMA securities lending and trades for CBIAS customers;
  • Write analytical and operational FOMC intermeeting updates on the Treasury market and present content to staff at the Board of Governors;
  • Develop relationships with market participants to obtain market intelligence and context for financial market developments, including primary dealers and buy-side investors;
  • Contribute to the Group's broader efforts to monitor financial markets globally for the FOMC and the Treasury, through the coordination of daily written briefings and conference calls and market overview reports.
What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, public policy, or related field;
  • 7 + years of relevant experience including knowledge of financial instruments, market structure, macroeconomic theory, and monetary policy;
  • Experience trading Treasuries or related products is a plus;
  • Experience analyzing complex data sets using statistical software such as Tableau, STATA, R, and Matlab.
