Job Description:

The Associate Director for Fraternity and Sorority Programs and Services (FSPS) in Student Life is responsible for fostering a commitment to student success by actively developing, implementing, and maintaining programs and services that enrich student learning, build and maintain a strong sense of community, and support the social and personal development of students at the University of Oklahoma. This position will assist the Director of Student Life in providing vision and strategies to support the students and communities they represent, along with the department of Student Life. This individual will be responsible for implementing the day-to-day implementation of goals of the FSPS functional unit with the direction from the Director of Student Life. This individual will also oversee various Student Life operations. These include, but are not limited to, processing HR paperwork, training and development of staff, continuing education for staff, departmental assessment, and assisting with accounting. This position reports directly to the Director of Student Life and is part of the Division of Student Affairs.

Required Education: Bachelors Degree or equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND:


  • 18-36 months of higher education experience and work with diverse populations

Skills:


  • Skills and accomplishment in the areas of collaborative work with internal and external constituencies, conflict resolution, strategic planning, and awareness and sensitivity to issues concerning equal opportunity, advocacy, and student success

  • Strong group and one-on-one advising, coaching, and management

  • Understanding of the process involved in student development and the ability to communicate this understanding in a positive manner to all segments of the university community

  • Experience in developing/implementing programs and plans for community growth

  • Strong record of fostering communication with students, parents, faculty, OU community, and the public

  • Conduct themselves at all times with the highest levels of personal and professional integrity

  • Assist in identifying and recommending policy suggestions when efficient, sustainable, and alternative solutions are found

  • Developing and implementing efficient budgets, cost saving solutions, and long-term financial savings and investment strategies

  • Effective oral and written communication, research, mathematical, and computer skills.

  • Ability to work independently

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects at one time

  • Strong knowledge of local and national trends in fraternity and sorority communities

Advertised Physical Requirements:


  • Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods

  • May be required to work irregular hours (outside of normal business hours) due to student programs and events

  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies

Departmental Preferences:


  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in higher education working with fraternity and sororities, campus programming, or diverse communities. 

  • Minimum requirements may be met by an equivalent combination of education and experience.  

  • Experience with first generation student engagement and diversity programming preferred

Supervision: 1-5 Staff
