Job Summary


Provides technical and operational assistance for all telecommunications infrastructure at Nicklaus Children's Health System. Responsible for the planning, design, installation, operation, performance, management, and maintenance of all telecommunication infrastructure to ensure industry standards and safety regulations are being met.


 Minimum Job Requirements



  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences, Information Systems, or related field (OR) 5 years of working experience in telecommunications engineering.



  • Active and valid State of Florida driver’s license with an approved driving record pursuant to our policy and maintained throughout employment.


  • 4-7 years Working experience in planning, design, installation, operation, performance, and maintenance of Cisco Unified Communications platform (Cisco Communications Manager, Cisco Unity, Cisco UCCX, and Cisco voice gateways), Express Way, Telepresence, VM Ware, and Cisco UCS.

  • 4-7 years Work experience in VoIP signaling (H323, SCCP, MGCP, SIP) and signaling inter-working with QOS, PRI, and T1-CAS.

  • Working experience with call recording systems.

  • Working experience in enterprise dial-plan development and administration.

  • Working experience documenting issues and their resolutions in a computer system.

  • Available to be on-call 24/7/365 and work flexible schedules, holidays, and weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Assists with the development of the NCH Portfolio of Telecommunications Offerings.



  • Carries out tasks and activities ensuring the successful operation of telecommunications services.


  • Ensures standards are being followed on all telecommunications infrastructure and services and aids with the development of those standards.

  • Meets assigned support and service requests SLAs. Oversees provisioning and  installation of communications services directly and through service provider  partner.

  • Provides optimal support to patients and staff.

  • Provides project deliverables on time and meets project expectations.

  • Provides technical thought experience and mentorship to other team members and others when required.

  • Utilizes software and tools to automate provisioning and management.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities 



  • Cisco Certified Network Professional Voice.


  • Expert level knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies and software tools for performance monitoring and troubleshooting.

  • Basic level knowledge of SIP and H.323 video integration and interoperability in a Cisco IP Telephony environment.

  • Intermediate level knowledge of VoWLAN concepts and best practices.

  • Knowledge of FoIP and T.38 standards for IP faxing.

  • Able to communicate both verbally and in writing in a clear, concise, and courteous manner.

  • Able to work independently, provide exceptional customer service, establish necessary professional relationships, and interact effectively with external and internal customers from entry to executive management levels.

  • Able to communicate technical and operational-related concepts to department heads, technical, and non-technical users.

  • Able to gather needs, conduct root cause analysis, assess requirements, and provide strategies on preventive measures or telecommunication solutions.

  • Results-oriented and self-motivated individual with the ability to improve the effectiveness, performance, and efficiency of the Telecom Engineer Team.

  • Able to work in a fast pace environment and possess strong organizational skills including priority setting, planning, decision making, and effective management and use of resources to meet the competing deadlines of a variety of tasks, problems, and projects.

  • Able to interpret, adapt, and react calmly under stressful conditions in a pleasant manner.

  • Able to learn and effectively use work related software application(s).

  • Able to work in a team, build consensus, influence others, and handle conflicts with tact.
