Position Summary:
The UT Division of Child Protection Pediatrics is seeking a recreation therapist to provide quality recreational therapy services in a unique intensive outpatient program for children with chronic medical conditions. The intensive outpatient program is an outgrowth of the Division that aims to address the problems of medical nonadherence and overuse of inpatient services among children with chronic conditions in a holistic manner that includes a heavy emphasis on psychological therapy and social services. Typical patients have a medical diagnosis that is complicated by ongoing psychosocial stressors that result in recurrent complications, such as diabetics with repeated inpatient stays for ketoacidosis, children with somatoform complaints, and those having trouble coping with cancer or other serious chronic conditions. Patients often have mental health issues related to depression, anxiety, and adjustment disorder.
