Job Description:

ScottMadden is seeking an Energy Research Analyst for our Raleigh, NC office. This is a high-visibility position reporting to Partner and Director of Research. The Energy Research Analyst will provide analytical support to the Research Department, supporting the firm’s Energy Practice.  The analyst will also provide administrative and practice organization support to the firm’s energy practice leader. The Energy Research Analyst will also interact with and report frequently to officers, partners, our clean tech manager, our energy benchmarking manager, and consulting staff, as well as clients, on assigned projects.

Responsibilities


  • Conduct research, both primary and secondary (leveraging resources like periodicals, reports, etc.), including web-based research, in support of consulting projects, business development, firm publications, and consultant, client, and media inquiries

  • Extract and manipulate data and reports from commercial and in-house databases, as well as public data sources, and input data as needed

  • Support organization and administration of the firm’s energy practice, including:

    • Collection, organization, and maintenance of energy practice qualifications

    • Assistance in developing business development collateral including consulting service summaries, example deliverables, and other material



  • Prepare reports and presentations suitable for executive review, including company briefing books, industry or subject-matter overviews, and white papers and other though leadership publications, including our twice-annual Energy Industry Update

  • Monitor industry developments and news, synthesize, and disseminate for consultants in various energy communities of practice and provide other support of communities of practice, as needed

  • Support knowledge management activities, including organizing and retrieving research, deliverables, and other resources produced or provided by consultants, and administration of the firm’s periodicals and databases

  • Conduct leading practices and benchmarking research, analysis, and any related knowledgebase maintenance

  • Conduct spreadsheet- and database-based analysis, synthesize data from multiple sources, and develop charts to illustrate findings

  • Perform other tasks in support of the research function

  • May occasionally involve work beyond regular work hours

Qualifications


  • A. or B.S. degree, preferably in Business, Economics, Finance, Marketing, Mathematics, or similar discipline

  • Up to 2 years in a similar role preferred but not required

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA

  • Team-oriented and service-oriented attitude

  • A self-starter, with an ability to work without close supervision

  • Excellent organizational skills and able to manage multiple tasks

  • Good writing and quantitative skills, with the ability to write and speak clearly and concisely and communicate at a professional level

  • A quick study, with an ability to synthesize sometimes technical information quickly, concisely, and accurately and to distill and communicate
