Job Description

POSITION OBJECTIVES:

Takeda's summer internship program blends real world experience with an extensive overview of the pharmaceutical industry. Knowledgeable mentors will provide guidance as you gain professional hands-on experience. The summer internship program is 12 weeks in length and offers a unique perspective into a world-class pharmaceutical company. Compensation is competitive, and financed temporary housing is available to those who qualify. Our internship program also provides you the opportunity to network with people at Takeda through various planned events and activities.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The purpose of this internship is to potentially identify genetic disposition to “super response” to inline products (e.g. daramumab, rituximab) which may serve as part of combination therapies for Takeda pipeline assets which currently have overlapping indications (i.e. DLBCL et c.).

This may be accomplished in one of two ways:

Literature review to identify known differential response between genetic groups, both clinical trials and observational data  Review of available published and unpublished -omics data in humans

The therapies and indications are to be decided on based on the needs of Global Evidence and Outcomes, potentially in collaboration with Translational Medicine and the clinical sub-teams of different assets.

The individual will conduct a literature review using PubMed on papers documenting differences in responses to therapy based on genetic responses, either in mutations in the cancer (somatic) or within the individual (germ line). If the candidate has the appropriate background he/ she will review data from papers or analyze publicly available data (e.g. ClinGen) using statistical software to compare differential response to cancer therapies.

EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:


  • Applicants must be enrolled in a U.S. accredited university for the semester before and immediately following the internship.

  • Applicants must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree and have completed at least their junior year or be a graduate level student pursuing a doctoral or Master’s degree
    • .The following areas are preferred:

      • Genetics

      • Molecular biology

      • Bioinformatics

      • Biochemistry

      • Epidemiology

      • Computer science with an interest in systems biology




  • Applicants must have a basic understanding of the potential for differences in response to therapies caused by variants present in the somatic versus germ line DNA.

  • Must be deadline driven and have a high level of organizational and planning skills

  • The ideal candidate exhibits strong analytical, problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills; he or she also possesses the ability to work well in teams, effectively manage multiple projects, and present ideas clearly and concisely.

  • Experience in each of the following MS Office applications:

  • MS Outlook - Proficient

  • MS Word - Proficient

  • MS Excel - Proficient

  • MS PowerPoint – Proficient

  • Pubmed/ Medline- Proficient

  • SAS Studio/ R would be helpful
