ODJFS is seeking qualified individuals to assist unemployed Ohioans in applying for Unemployment Assistance.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:


  • This position is temporary, unclassified, and is not eligible for benefits.

  • Although categorized as 'part-time', the hours for this position will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a 1-hour lunch (40-hours per week). During the initial 2-week training period, the hours will be 9:00 am to 3:00 pm with a 30-minute lunch. At this time, the schedule is not negotiable. 

  • At this time, this position is working from home although you will initially have to come to an ODJFS facility in Columbus Ohio to pick up equipment and receive initial instructions. In the future, you may be assigned to work in an ODJFS facility rather than work from home. 

  • In order to do this job, you are required to provide your own internet access, due to working from home. 

  • There are multiple positions available. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

In this job, you will:


  • Build and maintain professional relationships with claimants, employers, and other adjusters.

  • Record and transmit action taken on a claim to accurately determine claim status.

  • Input and make corrections to unemployment claim information.

  • Utilize unemployment systems and software.

  • Follow Federal, State, and ODJFS rules and regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Report to a Claims Supervisor.

  • Complete initial and ongoing training as required.

  • Perform fact-finding and investigate claims issues to determine appropriate action needed for claim resolution.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Actual responsibilities will vary depending on daily needs and type of customer supported.

Candidate must have the following minimum qualifications. For further consideration, applicants must clearly identify how qualifications are met within the education and/or experience sections of the application.


  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, calculate fractions, decimals and percentages, and read, speak and write common English vocabulary


  • AND 12 months training or 12 months experience in office practices and procedures


  • AND 3 months training or 3 months experience in interviewing or questioning customers to solicit pertinent information in order to provide certain services


  • AND 3 months training or 3 months experience in public relations/customer service


  • AND demonstrate skill to type data accurately using personal computer keyboard with typing speed of 25 net words per minute


  • AND demonstrate proficiency in using personal computer with windows application of 3.1 or equivalent


  • AND must provide own transportation


  • In addition to the preceding, applicants for positions in telephone registration centers must demonstrate ability to respond effectively to a continuous succession of timed telephone calls to gather information while simultaneously entering data into the computer system using personal computer keyboard with windows application of 3.1 or equivalent.

Equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above

Preferred Qualifications include:


  • Experience in a call center environment answering back-to-back timed telephone calls to gather information while simultaniously entering data into a computer system using a keyboard and mouse.

  • Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Teams, and Skype for messaging, calls, and screen sharing.

  • Experience working in an office environment including completing forms, communicating with coworkers, and operating as part of a team.
