Summer Internship in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology
The J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) is a dynamic non-profit research organization using science to impact the world. Our research groups focus on human genomic medicine, infectious disease, immunology, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, and software engineering. We are looking for self-motivated, inquisitive minds to work with us in asking and finding the answers to questions that progress biomedical research.
We seek an intern to work on a project funded by the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases to identify predictive mechanistic biomarker of severe COVID-19 disease. The intern will utilize existing software packages and large multi-omics datasets derived from COVID-19 patient samples to perform statistical tests for correlation analysis. The intern will also utilize advanced machine learning methods to facilitate multi-omics data integration and produce predictive models of COVID-19 disease severity. The successful candidate will report to Dr. Richard H. Scheuermann, Director of Informatics and La Jolla campus director in our La Jolla facility. Candidates should also have demonstrated interest and experience in bioinformatics research.
The candidate will learn:
Projects are likely to include exposure to and training associated with RNA sequencing, cytometry, statistics, computer science, bioinformatics, machine learning, immunology and infectious disease.
Requirements:
J. Craig Venter Institute is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply and will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristic or status.
