We're looking for an Aviation Human Factors Design Engineer  to join this visionary team that plays an integral part of our product development, focusing on general aviation, business aviation, commercial aviation military and unmanned/optionally piloted vehicles.

The ideal candidate would be a pilot or have some form of aviation experience, along with experience in Human Factors or User Experience / Design work. Essential functions for this role include:


  • Designs, reviews and tests user interface designs for avionics products and aviation web / mobile services

  • Ensures consistency using Garmin aviation user interface guidelines by leading user interface reviews, providing UI training to software enginers and soliciting feedback to improve guidelines as needed

  • Attains in-depth knowledge of product operation including configurations and variations of Garmin integrated flight decks

  • Writes system concept, design and description documentation to support creation of features and products

  • Evaluates and tests new products and features during development including concept evaluations, bench testing, flight simulation testing and flight testing and certification

  • Supports customer visits and reviews

  • Serves in leadership capacity to design new features including coordination of stakeholder input including flight operations or customer test pilots, technical research and competitive analysis

  • Identifies areas of aviation and human factors training needs within the aviation software team and develops and implements training to address the needs

  • Leads development, coordination and execution of human factors evaluations

  • Represent the pilot by working with the software development team to ensure ideal solutions are developed and deployed

Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Aviation Sciences or Human Factors from a four-year college or university OR an equivalent combination of education and experience with outstanding academics. Other requirements include:


  • Advanced working knowledge of aviation industry and avionics

  • Demonstrated proficient knowledge of aviation industry and competition

  • Strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

Candidates with the following qualifications are highly preferred!


  • Pilot’s license (Private, Instrument or Commercial rating)

  • Experience with Adobe software products, Sketch, or other design tools

  • Experience with competitor integrated flight decks and flight management

  • Experience with integrated flight decks through flying, flight test engineering or flight simulators

  • Knowledge of Garmin aviation products, especially Garmin integrated flight decks

  • Demonstrated passion for aviation, along with critical problem-solving skills and ability to influence and inspire others
