Responsibilities 

The Director - Culture Communications will be responsible for leading a team of communications professionals that develops and delivers an internal communications strategy to help drive a consistent culture across the company, including Team Lilly, Diversity & Inclusion, Social Impact and Well-Being initiatives.   

 

The Director - Culture Communications will partner with counterparts in Reputation Management and Creative, Content and Channels to ensure alignment throughout the Communications function that supports an enterprise focus and the delivery of the Lilly corporate narrative.  

 

An experienced communicator with culture communications expertise, strong communications counselling skills and experience navigating the complexity of a highly matrixed structure, the Culture Communications Director will partner closely with colleagues within Enterprise Communications and across the function to deliver on our Communications objectives.  

Key Objectives/Deliverables 


  • Develop and implement a culture communications strategy that drives alignment with the overall Global Communications strategy and priorities, and supports consistent internal messaging across all regions, businesses and departments. 


  • Create and implement a comprehensive communications plan that incorporates priority employee initiatives impacting our culture, including Team Lilly, Diversity & Inclusion, Well-Being and Social Impact. 


  • Partner with and provide strategic counsel to key business partners to help drive a communications strategy that creates an engaging, positive culture. 


  • Evaluate and recommend new strategies and ideas to help create a consistent culture across the company. 


  • Partner with Employee Communications, International and USA Communications to develop global all-employee engagement efforts. 


  • Contribute to the development of large-scale change management communications strategies that impact the culture across the company.  


  • Partner with Employee Communications to develop a leader-led communications strategy to assist leaders across the company to drive a consistent culture. 


  • With strategic direction from the Enterprise Communications Senior Director and in partnership with Employee Communications, International and USA Communications, help drive the continued transformation of enterprise-wide communications to be more streamlined, creative, connective and forward-looking. 


  • Provide counsel to VP of Communications, SVP of Diversity & Inclusion, Social Impact VP, HR SVP, and other senior leaders regarding matters relating to culture communications.  


  • Lead, coach and develop a team of communications professionals. 


  • Supervise external agencies and vendors as needed. 


  • Use analytics to adjust tactics and content to engage employees and measure culture impact. 


  • Serve as member of the Enterprise Communications Leadership Team. 


 

Basic Qualifications  


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations or related field 


  • 10+ years of diverse communications experience within corporate or public relations agency environments 


Additional Skills/Preferences  


  • Pharmaceutical or healthcare experience and expertise 


  • Strong culture communications or employee engagement experience 


  • Proven success managing multiple enterprise-wide initiatives 


  • Ability to display a strong, confident presence with senior executives 


  • Experience managing teams with diverse skills and experiences 


  • Superb writing ability 


  • Culture Communications or Employee Engagement experience is critical. 


  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills with quick learning capabilities. 


  • Ability to be a flexible team player, act quickly and meet deadlines with the highest ethical and business standards. 


  • Experience leading people and building strong working relationships at all levels across the organization. 


  • Proven ability to be innovative and creative, and knowledgeable about new communications trends. 


  • Proven track record in providing strategic, persuasive and appropriate communications counsel to senior leaders. 


  • Ability to manage issues and remain calm under pressure. 


  • Superb verbal and written communications skills. 


  • Meticulous attention to detail, with ability to grasp and focus on the big picture. 


  • Vast project management capability that includes process development and improvement, communications of best practices, and measurement.
