Functional Description: Technical Individual Contributors

Designs and analyzes mechanical systems, equipment and packaging. Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs. Directs support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication. Provides design information to drafting for packaging documentation.

Functional/Business Knowledge:

  • Applies basic technical understanding with the knowledge to develop process and design experiments. Possesses theoretical knowledge, but is learning the industry and requirements of applied science. Understands organizational and functional processes and policies.

Scope:

  • Demonstrates potential for technical proficiency. Works on problems of basic scope in which analysis of situation or data requires a review of data factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.

Judgement:


  • Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.

  • Normally receives instructions on all work and work output it supervised.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 0-2 years related experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Contributes to the design and development of new mechanical technologies/solutions.

  • Demonstrates bench, clinical, and commercial feasibility of mechanical technologies

  • Collaborate on the design of components for functional reliability and high-volume manufacturing, including processes such as, plastic injection molding, metal stamping and forming, machining, and others as required.

  • Conduct theoretical analysis and performance simulations of product designs.

  • Conduct tolerance analysis and produce component and assembly level specifications.

  • Capture design solutions using CAD tools.

  • Utilize root cause investigation methodologies to de-bug and solve functional performance challenges.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders in Quality, Operations, Microbiology, Regulatory, Electrical Engineering, etc. and external vendors and service partners, providing mechanical engineering and design support to reach project milestones or resolve technical challenges.

  • Develop test plans, protocols, and reports to document concept and feasibility activities.

  • Support the development and technological challenges of multi-disciplinary product design to successfully integrate technologies at a system level.

Required Qualifications:


  • Ability to utilize Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools (SolidWorks preferred) to communicate product ideas and technical solutions.

  • Ability to utilize engineering analysis (ex. Matlab, FEA, Tolerance stack-up) and statistical analysis tools (ex. Minitab, JMP) to evaluate product design, performance and reliability.

  • Proven ability to work hands-on in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products.

  • Ability to thrive in an environment where there is ambiguity or uncertainty in product requirements and has a willingness to try and test new ideas.

  • Is a self-starter who excels in an environment where challenging technical problems are encountered.

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience in the design and development of mechanical components and systems involving electronic assemblies.

  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, fixture design and development of test methods.

  • Previous experience working in the medical device industry and/or working in a high volume disposable market.

Travel Required:

  • Up to 25%

Language Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
