About this Opportunity

As an Electrician 2, you'll perform advanced breakdown and preventive maintenance (PM) that includes the inspection, repair, and revision of complex and sophisticated plant machinery/mechanisms andmanufacturing and/or facilities-related equipment. You will enhance and improve machine utilization to ensure process repeatability anduptime as well as toreduce changeover and set-up times. You willperform breakdown maintenance by troubleshooting, repairing, and documenting. Additionally, you'll partner with management, engineering, and vendors regarding new machinery/equipment selection, specifications, set-up,and operator training. You may also act in a lead capacity and provide direction to other employees.

  • Actively participate inand contribute to systems and/or equipment process design and improvements.

  • Actively support all environmental and recycling efforts, including the disposal of hazardous materials. You may need to be HAZMAT certified.

  • Adhere to all corporate and department safety guidelines and procedures. You'll attend, and may conduct, safety training classes to stay up-to-date.

  • Aid in the design, assembly, and/or fabrication of all types of equipment and special machines.

  • Contribute to plant layout to facilitate the move, relocation, and installation of plant machinery andmanufacturing and/or facilities-related equipment.

  • Direct contractors in the maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment involving voltage greater than 500.

  • Document repairs, set-ups, maintenance, PM, and safety procedures to ensure equipment reliability, quality control, and improve the overall operation of equipment.

  • Inspect, adjust, program, and make electrical and mechanical repairs to plant machinery andmanufacturing and/or facilities-related equipment, according to work assigned.

  • Install, make alterations to, and rebuild equipment.

  • Ensure the working area, tools, and equipment are maintained in a clean, organized, and safe manner.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

  • Program a PLC to implement machine enhancements.

  • Recommend andtake partin systems and/or equipment modifications with management and engineering.

  • Recommend spare parts for inventory to provide equipment reliability.

  • Operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.

  • Perform other responsibilities, whichmay include:

    • Taking responsibility for all repairs and the installation of electrical systems and components up to 500 volts.

    • Designing and building control systems, starting from a control concept.

    • Troubleshooting and repairing machine control and/or support systems.

    • Troubleshooting electrical problems, including, but not limited to: power circuits, relay logic systems, PLC systems, and facilities-related systems.

    • Working with internal business partners to ensure effective and timely machine changeovers, set-ups, and projects.

You might be just who we're looking for if you have...


  • A high school diploma or equivalent education.

  • An Electrical Journeyman's license valid in the state employed and a minimum of three to five years of Journeyman experience.

  • Work experience in a leadership capacity.

  • One of the following in addition to a Journeyman's license: 16 credit hours of related classes, 120 contact hours of additional training, or an advanced degree in a related field.

  • Avalid driver's license.

  • The ability to obtain a Herman Miller, Inc. forklift and aerial platform operator's license. Other equipment licensing will berequired by location or assignment.

  • The technical aptitude, initiative, and leadership abilities required for this level.

  • The ability to interpret schematic drawings, diagrams, and printed instructions to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical problems.

  • The abilityto communicate (verbally and in writing) with all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated project management experienceof a minimum of forty hours and value of $25,000.

  • Computer literacy.

  • The ability to travel some overnight, and possibly overseas, for machine qualification runs and technical training.

  • The ability to keep the organization current by implementing updates and changes to the National Electrical Code.

  • The ability to perform all essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
