The Director, Training is an Ameren Leadership Team member responsible for developing AIC training strategies and methodologies related to all aspects of AIC training including electric, gas, engineering and safety. In addition, the Director, Training manages the activities of the AIC Training Departments to provide necessary training and qualification programs that develop and maintain worker competency required for safe, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance of the Electric and Gas distribution systems.

Key responsibilities include:


  • Develop comprehensive strategies for the overall Training function that enable AIC to not only remain current and effective in all aspects of training, but to also implement industry leading materials, tools, techniques, and technologies.


  • Ensure ongoing strategies and training methodologies remain up-to-date and relevant with the needs of Operations, including changes affecting the electric and gas systems and drive safety or culture-related initiatives of the business.


  • Ensure appropriate integration of the Training function within the business of AIC Operations. Training will be an integral part of the ongoing development of Safety and Operations culture.


  • Interact with the AIC Operations leadership team and develop key relationships that enable the Training function to be a partner with each area of the business.


  • Keep abreast of leading industry practices through relationships with associations such as AGA, MEA and EEI.


  • Manage and direct a team that includes Electric Line training, Cable Splicer training, Relay training, Gas training, Meter training, Engineer training, Work Management Systems training and Safety Compliance training.


  • Provide leadership and training management expertise to the development of an effective overall training methodology and governance process where common procedures are utilized throughout the AIC training functions. Ensure ongoing adherence to the governance process.


  • Provide leadership to establish a curriculum content and review process that ensures an ongoing up-to-date maintenance cadence, modernizes delivery methods, and uses competency as a basis to define a continuous training plan from pre-hire to retire for technical, field trade and management employees.


  • Ensure all apprentice training programs are based on a competency model that ensures technical skills are learned, practiced, demonstrated, and meet the requirements of the apprenticeship agreements between AIC and the union locals.


  • Integrate curriculums with onboarding, orientation, customer interaction, culture, safety compliance and ongoing refresher training across AIC.


  • Develop an ongoing education program for Trainers that develops and maintains competency in classroom management, technology and adult learning skills.


  • Oversee the budget for the equipment, materials and expenses associated with electric and gas training operations.


Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university is required, preferred degrees include classes in adult education and technical subjects. Ten or more years of progressively responsible and relevant experience in technical training is required. Five or more years of leadership/supervisory experience is required. Experience in technical and safety training programs for Electric and Gas utility field operations is preferred.
