Job Description:

Howmet Aerospace Inc. ("Howmet") is currently in search of an Assistant Controller to join the Controllership organization in Pittsburgh, PA.

The position, which is based at the Howmet Corporate Center located on the North Shore in Pittsburgh, PA, reports to the Controller of the group. The Controllership group includes the Financial Accounting and Consolidation departments which are responsible for assisting Howmet's Business Segments and Corporate Resource Units with addressing complex accounting issues and developing accounting policies for Howmet worldwide, consolidating worldwide results and ensuring compliance with all financial accounting requirements.

This position is accountable for complex accounting, consolidation and external reporting, monthly variance analysis and coordination of management reporting and external audit activities to ensure the accurate and timely reporting of Howmet's financial results for both internal and external purposes. The candidate would be required to examine and evaluate accounting policies and transactions; analyze, test, and report on financial data; and participate in the preparation of financial and management reports for use by senior level management. The candidate would also be required to add interpretive value and context on accounting matters through consulting with Segment and Resource Unit management.

Major Activities/Key Challenges:


  • Partnering with Segment and Resource Unit personnel in evaluating and concluding on complex accounting issues and financial transactions including potential acquisition and divestiture targets.
  • Ability to build strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with employees, superiors, and customers.
  • Manage multiple projects at the same time while continuing to maintain the daily financial requirements of a publicly traded company.
  • Analyzing variances, preparing, and consolidating financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Establishing, updating, and maintaining strong internal controls including streamlining and standardization of processes.
  • Displaying problem solving capabilities across a multi-national organization including the coordination with various tax and legal requirements as well as business unit reporting.
  • Serving as a liaison to our external public accounting firm.
  • Excellent presentation skills to communicate applicable content internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain the strong financial integrity and consistency of Howmet Aerospace Inc.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics from an accredited institution
  • CPA required
  • Seven (7) years of finance and accounting work experience with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Three (3) years management or supervisory experience
  • One (1) year of experience with multi-entity consolidation; including international entities, FX conversion and intercompany eliminations
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • MBA or similar qualification (CMA, CIA)
  • Big 4 Accounting or large business consulting firm experience; including manufacturing experience
  • Financial or business process re-engineering
  • Displays a strong business acumen and aptitude for learning
  • Hands-on and detailed oriented with the ability to see the big picture
  • Upside potential and desire for further leadership roles within Company - Finance or Non-Finance roles
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
  • Detailed knowledge of establishing and testing internal controls over financial reporting and the requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002
  • ERP systems experience in Oracle, Hyperion, SAP
  • Attention to detail and self-starter
  • Experience in building spreadsheets and use of MS Office tools
