Job Description:

The Scripps Networks (a growing portfolio of entertainment and news networks) provides absorbing entertainment and objective, intelligent news as we use our own distribution platforms to serve this unduplicated national audience. Scripps Networks is looking for an experienced Photojournalists. The ideal candidate is open to extensive travel to various courtrooms across the country, working closely with field producers, in shooting trials and taking viewers outside the four walls of the courtroom, by shooting b-roll and conducting interviews.

In addition to rigorous travel, Photojournalists will be required to take ownership in the maintenance and technical aspects of their work, from the operation of audio equipment and stationary/robotic cameras, to running ENG, mobile studio, and live shots.

The Photojournalists position involves the following:


  • Varying schedule due to, breaking news and/or daily news coverage requirements


  • Providing 24x7, 365 days per year, on-call support.


  • May entail phone or physical presence at the facility for equipment failure or other disasters. This includes, but is not limited to equipment and power failures, loss of contracted services, and schedule conflicts


  • Participation in an established on-call rotation


  • Overtime may be required to meet deadlines


Responsibilities


  • Setup, breakdown, and operate television broadcast camera(s) and audio equipment in a courtroom


  • Responsible for operating various news gathering equipment, including but not limited to ENG Equipment, DSLR Cameras and audio mixer


  • Operate TVU remote live equipment or similar in the field


  • Analyze subject material, select equipment, lighting, angle and background; select and present subject to achieve desired effect, with attention to lighting, background composition and style; Documentary style ENG; Setup and light on-site live shots


  • Explore all possibilities with reporters for active live shots and standups; Light, shoot, mic intimate interviews


  • Have complete knowledge of how to operate the mobile studio and learn the best ways to troubleshoot mobile studio or equipment issues


  • Maintain assigned gear, including camera, audio mixer, lights and support gear


  • Knowledge and demonstration of creativity, editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel laws


  • Manage personal travel expenses and the submission of expense reports efficiently


  • Drive company vehicle for business purposes· Drive rental cars for business purposes


  • Check mobile studio at the beginning and end of each shift - keep vehicles in excellent condition


  • Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications


  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience as DP/Video Journalist


  • Minimum of 3 years live news network experience· Proficiency with live broadband technologies


  • A strong technical understanding of C300m2 and DSLR style cameras and audio mixing equipment. Robotic camera experience a plus


  • Ability to work with bonded cellular live streaming technology such as TVU and Operate ENG/SNG vehicles under company guidelines and within proper safety parameters


  • Microwave truck and DSNG experience helpful· In-depth knowledge of LED lighting techniques and ability to successfully implement those techniques


  • Advise on gear purchases and work with/lead team responsible for equipment maintenance


  • Interest or passion for true crime stories and courtroom drama· Requires adaptability, enthusiasm, initiative and a positive approach to problem solving


  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to clearly communicate solutions; and able to relate well with diverse populations and age groups


  • Ability to work closely with producers, on-camera talent, and internal company personnel


  • Comfortable communicating with attorneys, judges and courtroom personnel


  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds


  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required


Experience:


  • DP/Video Journalist: 5 years (Required)

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field or comparable television work experience preferred
