Position Title: Fiber Engineer - 5N


Position Summary: Fiber engineer on the dedicated break/fix team. The engineer is responsible for all aspects of running trouble tickets including, vendor management, troubleshooting, trace review, repair plan and as-builts. As well as working scheduled maintenance events and creating permanent repair plans to the network. This position is a night Fiber Engineer, 4 (10) hour shifts to include Friday night and Saturday night.


Essential Job Functions:



  • Fiber Engineer is responsible for all emergency and trouble response tickets during shift.

  • Work jointly with the NOC, Field Operations, and Change management and vendors during outages.

  • Review traces provided by Field Operations or vendor and troubleshoot to isolate any impairments on the network.

  • Work with vendor to determine repair plan to restore customers service.

  • Coordinate permanent repairs for any temporary restoration efforts taken place during outages.

  • Close out any system assignments associated with trouble tickets.

  • Update systems real time with splicing changes in the field from outages.

  • Create a Fiber design maps for A-Z fiber locations as requested.

  • Create Requisitions for Purchase Order approval and payment to vendors.

  • Submit all necessary Change management notifications and adhere to field activity policies and guidelines.

  • Approve vendor invoices for any trouble tickets or projects.

Education/Certifications 



  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum 2-year technical degree or equivalent work experience

  • BS/BA (preference to Civil, Construction, or Electrical, Engineering Degrees) or equivalent work experience preferred

  • A valid driver’s license required

Experience/Minimum Requirements



  • One (1) to three (3) years of fiber engineering and construction management experience or equivalent and one (1) to three (3) years of field construction management experience with preference to both outside plant and inside plant fiber construction.

  • Knowledge of Outside Plant Construction techniques (aerial & underground) preferred

  • Working knowledge of NESC, NEC and OSHA standards preferred
