Starting Salary: Hays State Prison starts at $34,144.00 with a 10% Raise after 12 months taking your salary to $37,558.00.
Hays State Prison is a Georgia Department of Corrections state prison for men located on 777 Underwood Drive in Trion, Chattooga County, Georgia. The facility opened in 1990 and currently has a capacity of 1100 prisoners.
Job Overview
This position has opportunity for growth and advancement as a field-training officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Unit Manager, assistant Superintendent, Superintendent, Deputy Warden and Warden. There are also opportunities to advance in the roles of human resource positions such as recruitment and central H.R. personnel. In addition, you can advance in special operations, training and executive roles such as director assistant director and who knows maybe even our commissioner. You are eligible for promotions in as little as 12 months with the State of Georgia.
Responsibilities and Duties:
As a corrections officer you are responsible for maintaining order and enforcing the rules and regulations set forth by the Georgia dept. of Corrections.
Keeping accountability of offenders.
De-escalating issues.
Counseling offenders.
Making rounds, observing and reporting issues.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
21 Years of age
Entry Level Position no prior qualifications needed.
Male applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to do eight pushups twelve sit-ups and run/ walk a mile in sixteen minutes, Female applicants must be able to demonstrate four pushups eight sit-ups and run/walk a mile in sixteen minutes.
Must have the following documents or the ability to obtain them, High school diploma/G.E.D, any of the following (act, sat, compass or accuplacer scores) driver's license, social security card and birth certificate.
Must have a clean criminal record meaning no arrest or convictions for the following, Drugs, Theft, obstruction of a law enforcement official, domestic violence, affray or any charges that required extensive probation that required completion of a jail sentence.
Must be able to attend P.O.S.T certified corrections academy in Forsyth GA. Training is a 5-week program that gets your ready for this position. During this 5-week course of study, you will learn the workings of the criminal mind, ethics, use of force, defensive tactics, criminal law, case study and daily nutrition. Training is paid (meaning you will receive your entry salary during the duration of school) transportation to and from school is provided along with housing and meals.
