Job Description:




  • Purpose of Job
    • The practice of nursing by a registered nurse shall mean the assumption of responsibility and accountability for those nursing actions which include, but are not limited to: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of a nursing diagnosis. Execution of the prescribed diagnostic and therapeutic treatment regiments, administering, delegating, and evaluating nursing activities.

    • Education

      • Graduate from an accredited Diploma School of Nursing/College of Nursing with an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (ASN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.

      • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.





    • License/Certifications

      • Current unrestricted RN Licensure by the State of Nebraska required.

      • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.

      • Driver's License required.





    • Experience
      • Two to five years previous inpatient nursing experience preferred.




    • Skills

      • Knowledge of computer resources.

      • Proficiency in nursing practice.

      • Exceptional ability to be self-directed.

      • Outstanding ability to communicate with wide variety of disciplines.

      • Provides an accurate and thorough assessment of the patient/family to identify human responses to actual or potential health conditions.



        • Performs patient care assessments and reassessments based on patient condition and established policy/procedure.

        • Demonstrates the ability to effectively utilize the nursing process when providing assessment for all individuals.

        • Demonstrates the ability to assess and reassess pain and pain management techniques utilized.

        • Documents all assessment and reassessments in an accurate, legible, and timely manner.




      • Formulation of a nursing diagnosis to identify and plan for the needs of an individual, family, or group.



        • Utilizes history and assessment information to identify patient problems and set goals.

        • Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs.

        • Demonstrates the ability to revise a plan of care as indicated by patient's response to treatment.

        • Utilizes assessment data and formulates a plan for discharge needs.




      • Implementation of a nursing treatment regimen to provide for the selection, performance and management of proper nursing practices.



        • Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standards of care and patient's age.

        • Performs direct patient care utilizing professional nursing skills and judgment according to physicians and other licensed practitioner's orders.

        • Teaches health care practices, initiates and participates in patient and family education programs.

        • Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their condition.

        • Documentation of nursing care meets current standards and policies.




      • Evaluation of the plan of care an treatment for all patients under his/her care to promote resolution of patient problems and positive patient outcomes.



        • Evaluates overall plan daily for effectiveness and makes adjustments as needed to meet patient goals.

        • Evaluates effectiveness of learning and discharge teaching needs.




      • Coordinates and supervises patient care to provide for the management of a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.



        • Communicates pertinent information regarding patient care appropriately and clearly.

        • Demonstrates the ability to assist physicians with procedures and patient rounds.

        • Utilizes effective clinical delegation skills, demonstrating accountability for the scope of practice of the individual being delegated to and evaluation of the outcome of delegation.

        • Consults with co-workers and other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs and discharge plan.




      • Safety initiative - Complies with FAMC safety policies and procedures and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, JCAHO, CLIA, etc.)



        • Performs job duties in a manner consistent with organization and departmental safety policies and procedures. C

        • Completes departmental safety requirements, I.e., blitz, departmental in-services, etc., on an annual basis.
