JOB DESCRIPTION



Smiths Medical is seeking Engineering students with a desire to learn the Commercial Aspects of product development to be contributors on various projects with our Global Sourcing Department. Headquartered in Plymouth, Minnesota, Smiths Medical is a leading innovator and producer of medical devices that provide critical patient care to leading hospitals and facilities around the globe. The company specializes in creating low-cost, highly reliable and precise devices for infusion pump systems, rapid fluid warmers, respiration assistance, and implantable vascular access devices.


We are seeking students with degrees in Mechanical, Biomedical, Packaging, and Electrical Engineering. A combined interest in engineering and business would be the ideal candidate. The Smiths Medical Internship program's anticipated start date is May 24, 2021.







DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES




  • Accept work direction from engineers and Sourcing team which includes supporting New Product Introduction projects, driving continuous improvement initiatives and processes, problem solving, and influencing cross functional teams

  • The Intern will be assigned work with Sourcing Team members / or Project Managers to evaluate project processes and suggest improvements

  • Responsible for writing improvements to project plans and updates. For example - Regional Expansion of products and Product Line expansion within existing regions

  • Responsible for evaluating supplier communications and pricing analysis

  • Responsible for contributing to New Product Introduction (NPI) teams

  • Intern presentations of work at end-of-term to division management







REQUIREMENTS




  • Engineering students enrolled in a 4-year accredited college program, with minimum sophomore year completed by summer of 2020 and an interest in commercial aspects

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA

  • Good Project Management and 'hands-on' skills

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

  • Ability to take work direction as a learning opportunity

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Project)

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently and organize/prioritize job assignments and tasks

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to management and cross functional team members
