The Illumina life cycle management team is seeking an Engineer 2 to drive project execution across a portfolio of products within instrument manufacturing operations. As an operations project manager, you will operate as a leader in driving the release and support of instrumentation products and accessories. This includes the development and execution of manufacturing strategies for new product introduction, as well as process improvement for existing products. It requires partnering cross-functionally with R & D, Quality, Production, Supply Chain and Field support teams to develop processes for new products, as well as sustain and improve the quality of existing on-market products. Candidates will benefit from a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and experience with enterprise systems and supplier management. The successful candidate must be able to work independently, handle multiple priorities and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Responsibilities:
Provide technical leadership and operations guidance during the development and transfer of instrumentation hardware and software to manufacturing
Represent instrument operations on product development core teams
Define operations strategies and manage configurations
Develop expertise in the fundamentals of Illumina sequencing instrumentation including optics, fluidics and motion control systems
Collaborate with the supply chain team to manage relationships with key suppliers
Collaborate with quality and regulatory representatives to ensure products are compliant
Drive standardization and tracking of KPIs and metrics related to suppliers and instrument production
Analyze production data to identify opportunities for improvement
Lead teams in documenting, validating and implementing design & process change
Support all sites & staff during external & internal audits and inspections
Maintain close relationships with manufacturing and quality site leads
Coordinate with cross-functional teams to create, revise and obsolete procedures and work instructions
Drive cost savings initiatives
Requirements:
4+ years industry experience, 2+ years project management experience
Experience in the medical device/IVD, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology fields
Experience with ERP and PLM systems highly desired
Experience leading project teams without direct line reporting
Ability to multi-task and methodically manage multiple projects
Demonstrated strong analytical problem solving (CAPA, Lean, Six Sigma)
Experience/Education:
Typically requires a minimum of 4+ years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree.
