PVS Engineer Lead at Cigna

Job Description:

PVS Engineer activities


  • PVS Engineer play a part in the testing cycle from the beginning of the release / project activities
  • PVS Engineer to get upfront visibility on features and business requirements, and also first-hand view of nonfunctional requirements as they are generated during the sprint phase.
  • PVS Engineer would be responsible for creating PVS Strategy and approach and also work with Application Architects & Dev teams to implement performance improvement solutions
  • Identifies potential performance/capacity constraints and bottlenecks, directing efforts to prevent service disruptions
  • Develop an automated test scenario and environment for performance testing
  • Facilitate repeatable CICD tests and standards for the entire platform and supporting functions such as: workflows, APIs, configuration of PODs, etc
  • Is able to lead the charge with minimal guidance on continual improvement & maximizing the scalability of the platform based on evolving utilization patterns.


  • As a PVS Engineer

    • Lead cross delivery and release initiatives with minimal guidance
    • Is a self starter and can positively influence others to do the right thing.
    • Able to provide direction to others executing load testing
    • Execute early performance checks on monthly releases at code level for newly developed features in every Sprint before moving to regular performance test schedule.
    • Execute performance related activities and assist in data creation in lower/PVS Environments using in-house customized tools along with working side by side with the ISG/PDEE teams to discover performance related issues pre-PVS testing.
    • Review high level user stories and develop a performance test plan every sprint.
    • Work closely with product owner /Scrum Master of each Sprint teams and Architects to drive performance acceptance criteria in terms of response times.
    • Slowly move to mandate performance test results as part of DoD (Definition of Done) for every sprint.

Performance, Volume, Stress (PVS) Testing Scope


  • Create and manage the detailed project plan for the PVS testing process
  • Prepare, review and approve PVS Test Approach

  • Develop / update test cases for the stories that are part of the release, and communicate to the Performance Data Environment Engineering (PDEE) team
  • Identify test data conditions and review with SMEs for validity
  • Check if test data is readily available
  • If Supplier team is unable to procure test data, provide support to identify / create test data
  • Request content / code deployments for PVS environment.
  • Ensure Test Environment Availability
  • Update PVS Load Test Scripts
  • Execute Desktop load testing scripts
  • Execute Batch tests and track progress
  • Provide analysis on application behavior / performance
  • Prepare Test Execution and Defect Reports
  • Early performance and integrated to CI/CD pipeline
  • Implement application performance dashboard for continuous monitoring of performance insights

PVS in-house tools:


  • Usage of tools like Jbehave, Neoload, Gatling and QTP custom Java scripts for creating volume of enrollments for Performance testing that provides faster and efficient results.
  • Few tools created are the PVS financial file creation utility / FUSE Load test tool.

    • jBehave (Behavioral driven development framework; web service testing is accomplished using the Http client java library)
    • QTP (CRAFT framework uses VB script for web service validation).

Strong knowledge on:


  • Realtime processing
  • Utilization on Kafka, OpenShift, Fuse, load balancing.
  • Migration patterns & application of technologies such as AWS.

This position is not eligible to be performed in Colorado.
