Title: Diesel Engine Development Engineer- 71819

Your Responsibilities

As a Power Unit Development Engineer at John Deere Power Systems, located in Waterloo, IA you will develop diesel engine and aftertreatment performance calibrations to meet existing and future emissions regulations. In addition, you will:


  • Develop diesel engine and aftertreatment controls strategies and requirements
  • Contribute to component development (combustion system, fuel system, air system, aftertreatment etc.) including defining system hardware specifications
  • Perform engine cycle simulations and related analyses to support engine development
  • Manage a Performance & Emissions test cell as needed, providing clear work direction for the test cell operators, and coordinating test schedules and experiments
  • Design and execute test plans (simulation and hardware) to evaluate engine and component performance and then critically analyze data, model & optimize results, document knowledge and provide recommendations.

What Skills You Need


  • One or more years of experience with engine development or engine control system development or engine component/subsystem development
  • Knowledge of engine test lab equipment, data acquisition, and data analysis tools
  • Knowledge of diesel engine emissions control technologies and emissions regulations
  • Demonstrated skills in the clear communication of technical data and project information
  • Willing and able to travel up to 25%

What Makes You Stand Out


  • Experience in performance and emissions development of heavy-duty diesel engines, including the use of controller development tools
  • Experience using Design of Experiment methodologies, modeling, and optimization techniques
  • User experience with GT-Power and PUSM
  • User experience with National Instruments Diadem analysis software
  • User experience with Matlab and associated toolboxes (MBC, CAGE, Simulink)
  • Master of Science degree in engineering discipline, or additional classes in thermodynamics, fluids, heat transfer, combustion, controls, engine performance or design

Education

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline
