Core Responsibilities

• Use technical competence to determine the civil scope-of-work for a project.


• Prepare advanced planning documents, scoping documents, budget requests and appropriation documents.


• Prepare detailed specifications for projects. Meet with vendors and customers to optimize the proposed design.


• Perform economic evaluations.


• Establish project schedules.


• Provide support to existing and proposed Company Substation & Transmission facilities, Facilities Buildings and Yards, Purchasing and Construction Departments for the procurement and construction of projects.


• Supervise both in-house and out-of-house design efforts. Respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis.


• Provides technical assistance as required.


• Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Required Education/Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, or a Bachelors degree in any engineering discipline with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering And 2 years of work experience to include 1 year of applicable engineering experience in the design of all types of steel, concrete and masonry structures and a thorough knowledge of all applicable codes such as AISC, ACI, ASCE, NYC Building Code, etc. Or


• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, or a Bachelors degree in any engineering discipline with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering And 3 years of applicable engineering experience in the design of all types of steel, concrete and masonry structures and a thorough knowledge of all applicable codes such as AISC, ACI, ASCE, NYC Building Code, etc. EIT registration or PE License preferred. ENGINEER (2L). Or


• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, or a Bachelors degree in any engineering discipline with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering And 8 years of applicable engineering experience in the design of all types of steel, concrete and masonry structures and a thorough knowledge of all applicable codes such as AISC, ACI, ASCE, NYC Building Code, etc. PE License required - SENIOR ENGINEER (2H). Or


• Master's Degree in Civil Engineering and a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering And 6 years of applicable engineering experience in the design of all types of steel, concrete and masonry structures and a thorough knowledge of all applicable codes such as AISC, ACI, ASCE, NYC Building Code, etc. PE License required - SENIOR ENGINEER (2H).

Required Work Experience

• The Civil / Mechanical Engineering Department seeks to recruit an industrious individual to join the Civil Engineering management team. The ideal candidate must be well organized, detail oriented, able to render sound business decisions, and have the flexibility to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines. This individual must have a high regard for personal accountability and understand the critical importance of commitment to excellence. The selected candidate must be able to promote a positive work ethic in support of the Company's Corporate Values, possess a high energy level and have a demonstrated commitment to environmental excellence and safety in the workplace. Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and have the demonstrated ability to effectively interact with various levels of personnel. May be responsible for the indirect supervision of both in-house designers and out-of-house consulting engineers and requires capability of supervising both.

• Requires either a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or a Bachelors in any engineering discipline with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering. Requires knowledge in the design of concrete, masonry and steel structures. Must have a working knowledge of all applicable codes such as ACI, AISC, NESC, ASCE, NYC Building Code, etc. Must have a thorough understanding of the safety and environmental issues that impact civil projects. Required


• 2 years of work experience to include 1 year of applicable engineering experience in the design of all types of steel, concrete and masonry structures. Required


• PE License required for the Sr. Engineer title. Required


• Requires computer proficiency to include Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) Required


• Should be knowledgeable in basic engineering design and principles. Required


• Ability to write specifications and standards and coordinate engineering projects and assignments Preferred


• EIT registration preferred for the Associate Engineer A title, and EIT/PE License preferred for the Engineer title. Preferred


• Working knowledge of computer aided design programs such as STAAD, AutoCad, MathCad Pref

• Driver's License Required

Other Physical Demands

• Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.


• Must be able to travel to company locations and wear the required PPE as needed.


• Other requirements that are position specific will be noted in the posting.


• Must be willing and able to travel within the company service territory required. Position requires working indoors and outdoors and in all weather conditions. Must be willing and able to climb stairs and ladders as needed. Must be willing and able to work in a substation environment with noise, heat, confined space, tall structures etc. Must be willing and able to wear a respirator and full body fall protection.
