The IT Network Engineer is responsible for all LAN/WAN and Firewall support within the Hawaii Gas network. They configure network equipment to meet security standards and troubleshoot issues with network behavior and performance. They will work within IT and with managed service providers on network, firewall, and phone system support.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, build, and maintain the Hawaii Gas network including overall management of switches, routers, and firewall equipment.
Coordinate monitoring of network resources with the Network Operations Center (NOC) and using internal monitoring tools.
Evaluate and recommend updates and changes to the network architecture to ensure maximum performance and security.
Evaluate new products and vendors as they relate to network services.
Work closely with the server engineer and the security managers on network and company security.
Acquire or maintain necessary certifications to support network management.
Has a strong understanding of basic cybersecurity practices as they relate to network management.
Be available to troubleshoot and investigate network issues during non-working hours.
Have a good understanding of the relationship between network and systems.
Maintain and support firewall and VPN technologies.
Demonstrate the ability to learn new skills as it relates to the job.
OTHER FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Complies with all safety rules and cooperates in the fullest in the promotion of safety and safe work habits, to include the reporting of any unsafe conditions or acts. Maintains all EH&S training on a current basis.
Complies with all applicable MIC and Hawaii Gas policies and procedures.
Maintains assigned work area and equipment in a clean, orderly and safe manner; performs housekeeping duties as required and/or instructed. Works in a safe and responsible manner.
Performs all other related duties as instructed by supervisor/manager.
May be required to participate in project planning and other high level tasks not directly related to the job description.
Qualifications
Required Education and/or Work Experience:
4 year college degree in Computer Science or Information Systems Management and 3-5 years of directly related experience in network and firewall management.
2 year college degree in computer science or information systems management and 5-7 years of directly related experience in network and firewall management.
7-10 years of directly related experience in network and firewall management.
Preferred Education and/or Work Experience:
4 year college degree and 7-10 years in network and firewall management.
Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation:
CCNA or CCNP Enterprise.
Preferred Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation:

Able to communicate professionally, courteously, and effectively utilizing standards means of communication within the workplace (i.e., verbal, written, e-mail, phone, text, etc.).
Current CCNA, CCNP or other Cisco related certifications strongly preferred
Network+ strongly preferred
Cisco Call Manager, One-X Communicator Flare, routers, switches, and related voice hardware or equivalent experience with a VOIP system
Proficient knowledge of Enterprise LANs and WANs
Experience with switched Ethernets, VLANs, layer three switching, and routing (EIGRP, OSPF, RIP, BGP)
