Job Description

The Advanced Sourcing - Automotive position will be based in Farmington Hills, MI. In this role you will be responsible for working closely with Engineering and Global Commodity Management to identify opportunities to improve product supply chain for an automotive industry client. You will need to model the full total cost of ownership associated with proposed improvements to ensure value to both the customer and Flex.

Business Strategy and Direction:

•  Promote revenue generation through developing an in depth understanding of automotive industry specific business needs, translating those needs into tasks for the GCM team and developing differentiated solutions for the customer.


•  Forge relationships with the supply base that will allow Flex's ongoing visibility to the industry, the players, and information that will allow Flex to build a compelling Supply Chain Solution.


• Develop, publicize and deploy a cohesive Segment business-based strategy for segment specific products

• Supplier Evaluation


• Traditional EMS vs. ODM Supply Chain


• Develop winning value propositions that add value for our customers

• Ensure that all aspects of Supply Chain are included in the strategy (i.e., Logistics, New business development, Design, Supplier Quality Development and Commodity Management).


• Initiate/monitor involvement between the GCM team and Flex design


• Drive positive impact on margin enhancement through differentiated component sourcing solutions


• Develop effective relationships with SSCM/ GAM to ensure that GCM is fully involved with new business opportunities. Establish credibility with customers through the demonstration of technical competence


• Develop effective relationships with senior individuals within the supply base, ensuring that Flex, wants, needs and requirements are clearly communicated and met. Understand Segment products/manufacturing through Flex /supplier site visits

Technical Management:

• Understand customer qualification requirements for new products and oversee execution through the GCM team.


• Develop and maintain Technology Roadmap and Supplier Capabilities


• Provide technical backup for alternate sourcing recommendations


• Utilize GCM resources to advise designers of lower-cost material or assembly approaches, and sit it in on design reviews as required


• Drive the GCM team to carry out the necessary supplier development initiatives to fill process gaps and unique customer process challenges

Cost Management:

• Maintain a cost-effective infrastructure that supports the size and scale of the clients business


• Develop pricing strategies for production, design, and benchmark quoting


• Ensure a process for including the Segment business critical parts into the quarterly negotiation cycle


• Utilize previous investments & activities for future requirements


• Identify creative ways to reduce cost by streamlining processes, systems and value engineering


• Define, develop and make effective use of cost analysis tools


• Help develop a quick RFQ process, based on Segment business knowledge and direct suppliers with accurate target pricing


• Provide regular guidance on cost/price trends


• Develop understanding of price points for common types / commodities within the segment


• Provide mechanical inventory reduction management recommendations


• Develop Sustainable Materials Margin opportunities


• Ensure lowest landed component costs are negotiated, captured, and implemented across segment businesses.
