Job Description:

The Cocktail/Food Server will be responsible for serving food and cocktail orders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Greet guests upon arrival in a friendly and professional manner.

  • Answer questions about menus, specials, and drinks.

  • Take food and/or drink orders and ring up order according to hotel standards.

  • Deliver orders in a timely manner after being filled by cook and/or bartender.

  • Check back with guests; if not satisfied, take proper corrective action as per hotel policy, or alert manager.

  • When directed, assist bartender by restocking bar supplies such as ice, napkins, straws, fruit, and other items; serving/not serving certain guests, or other related functions.

  • Serve alcohol safely and responsibly according to Alaska state laws and hotel policy, and alerting manager to potential problems before they arise.

  • When guest has finished with meal or cocktails, print check and collect payment or signature if room charge and post to proper account.

  • Prepare work area for shift by stocking with all necessary items, such as but not limited to napkins, towels, straws, fruit, etc.

  • Keep station clear of empty bottles, glasses, and finished plates.

  • At end of shift, run cashier report and balance to cash due following hotel procedures, placing cash and checks in drop envelope, and other items in audit box. Drop envelope in safe using established witness procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.

  • Must maintain and conform to established union and company policies and procedures at all times.

  • Must join union within 30 days if not already a member.

  • Must obtain all necessary permits (T.A.M. card, food server permit) within 30 days of hire.

  • Must provide documents that establish right to work in the United States before beginning work.

COMPETENCIES:


  • Ability to communicate and comprehend English.

  • Ability to stand and/or walk for duration of shift.

  • Ability to perform a full range of motions, including but not limited to lifting, bending, carrying, and reaching.

  • Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds or more at times, using hands or service trays, throughout duration of shift.

  • Ability to work in an environment that is loud and noisy for the duration of shift.

  • Ability to use a calculator, and basic math skills to make proper change due to guests, and account for daily sales receipts using established company procedures.

  • Ability to work calmly and effectively with all hotel personnel and management in order to satisfy guests' reasonable needs and desires.

  • Ability to learn and use computer ordering/retrieval system per company standards for purposes including but not limited to inputting food and/or drink orders, closing out guest checks, and running accounting reports.
