Job Description:

KATC-TV, the Scripps ABC affiliate in Lafayette, LA is searching for an aggressive and proven leader to join our team as a Digital Executive Producer.

The Digital Executive Producer will handle planning, assigning, and prioritizing daily digital content and breaking news coverage. The EP will be a hands-on strategic and creative force to help oversee and create content optimized for multiple platforms that align with a strong content strategy.

This position will also oversee digital content producers in a fast-paced environment. In this role you will also attend daily editorial meetings and lead digital discussions of news coverage with our team of journalists. This position requires a strong understanding of social media and the unique challenges and opportunities on each platform. We seek someone skilled in sourcing and enterprising story ideas.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:


  • Work with digital content producers and developers.


  • Work in conjunction with news management to coordinate the daily news operations for websites, apps, social media and other digital platforms.


  • Monitor web analytics to assess user experience and engagement, address issues and evolve the site's tactical execution plan to grow web page views and unique visitors.


  • Produce content to optimize the user experience by being attentive to live web metrics and user experience best practices.


  • Enhance the news content with outside links, maps and slideshows.


  • Work with news management to set up processes and systems for the migration of multi-media content to new media platforms, including video, audio, still photos and graphics.


  • Plan digital coverage of major news events, breaking news and severe weather to ensure high quality consistent community coverage online.


  • Conceive of and supervise the build of special sections and site features to enhance coverage and increase user engagement.


  • With the editorial direction of the Director, Digital and/or News Director, responsible for the management of user-generated content on the sites.


  • Responsible for content plans for niche sites, sales-oriented micro sites and any other business.  Work closely with other station departments, including sales and marketing, as needed on site and station initiatives that require content integration.


  • Perform other duties as needed and directed.


WHAT YOU'LL BRING:


  • BS/BA in related discipline required.


  • 2 years experience producing, and showcasing online content preferred.


WHAT YOU'LL NEED:


  • Must demonstrate good journalism and writing skills (including AP style) as well as an understanding of current events.


  • Must understand basic journalism legal principles.


  • Must be able to multitask, meet deadlines and work under pressure.


  • Experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced newsroom environment strongly preferred.


  • People and project leadership/management experience strongly preferred.


  • Working knowledge of online content-management systems required.


  • Experience working with online metrics and analytics preferred.


  • Working knowledge of web-design tools.


  • Working knowledge of photo and video editing tools.


  • A moderate level of mobility is required in expediting work flow processes and procedures.


  • Must be physically able to sit at a work station and maintain productivity for upwards of eight (8) hours on occasion.


  • A relatively high degree of mental acuity and social skills are necessary to successfully interact with coworkers, newsroom supervisors, and the general public, often under time-sensitive conditions.


  • In the event of a local hurricane, stay at the station with the rest of the staff to help support the news organization.
