Job Description:

The Research Bioinformatics Group at New England Biolabs invites excellent candidates to apply for the position of Bioinformatics Scientist.  The successful candidate will work collaboratively with bench and computational scientists to develop and build advanced tools and conduct data mining and analyses to advance enzyme discovery and early-stage research and development projects at NEB. 

 

Primary Responsibilities


  • Design, build and implement computational tools and databases to support NEB enzyme discovery needs.


  • Support research teams using state of the art computational analysis approaches, and when necessary developing new bioinformatics resources applied to large datasets including nucleic acid sequence analysis, enzyme discovery and NGS data analysis


  • Collaborate with scientists to design, analyze and interpret biological experiments


  • Educate and train peers


Required Qualifications and Experience


  • Advanced degree in Bioinformatics, Data Science, Computer Science, Biostatistics, Mathematics or Biology related fields with significant data analysis experience.


  • Excellent programming skills, expert knowledge in at least one programming language e.g., C/C++, Java, Perl, Python or Julia. 


  • A good knowledge and experience in software/webtool development.


  • Solid background in mathematics and statistical methods.


  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills good verbal and written communication skills.


  • A collaborative mindset and positive attitude.


  • Expertise in handling large data sets; knowledge of nucleotide/protein sequence analysis and data mining using public sequence databases is highly desired.


  • Machine learning skills and experience are highly desired.
