Holland Hall is seeking a Facilities Director to be responsible for all issues relating to the maintenance, management, and sustainability of the school facilities, grounds, infrastructure, and plant resources. In addition to overseeing day to day operations and the work of the facilities team, the Facilities Director leads planning for plant and facilities, defines and prioritizes deferred maintenance issues and works with school Administrators. All aspects of facilities maintenance, landscape, transportation and management of any outsourced contractors falls under the purview of the Director, who partners closely with the Associate Facilities Manager and Operations Manager to ensure that day to day as well as longer term planning issues are coordinated and cohesive. The Facilities Director also serves as the primary decision maker in prioritizing jobs, allocation of staffing, and resources in support of total facility management.

JOB DUTIES


  • Provide leadership, supervision and support for the maintenance and grounds staff.  Set standards and ensure quality control.  Encourage professional development of staff through training, goal setting and performance reviews.  


  • Maintain and enhance the facilities and related assets of the School in a safe and efficient manner including buildings, grounds, furniture, fixtures, vehicles, fire safety and security equipment and maintenance equipment and supplies.  Safeguard related plans and business documents.   


  • Coordinate and schedule routine, preventative maintenance and summer projects.


  • Manage small construction projects and coordinate with outside contractors on larger projects. 


  • Provide operational support for faculty, staff and parents for activities and special events.   


  • Oversight of the custodial vendors and coordination of maintenance and custodial schedules.


  • Develop operating budgets and long-term capital and project budgets.  Responsible for cost and budget control.


  • Responsible for code compliance programs and environmental, health and safety regulations such as asbestos management, playground safety, school bus operations, air quality, ADA and hazardous waste.  Develop staff training programs to ensure compliance with these regulations.


  • Serve on the safety and security committee and attend administrative, parent and board meetings as needed.


  • Assist in the recommendation, development and implementation of improvements to procedures, equipment and systems to ensure effective operations and best practices in the areas of building and grounds management, planned maintenance, energy management and school bus operations. 


  • Live at the Holland Hall residence for the convenience of Holland Hall to watch over the campus and respond to emergencies.

EXPERIENCE


  • College or trade school degree or equivalent experience required, preferably in one of the following disciplines: Industrial Management, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Architecture. 


  • Five to seven years of related experience is required, preferably in an educational setting.  

EXPECTATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE

The employee is required to perform each job successfully and must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:


  • Proven management skills in the area of personnel, time, facility and property management. 


  • Expertise in and an aptitude for administration, management, construction, mechanical equipment, landscaping and purchasing.  


  • Working knowledge of Holland Hall organizational policies and procedures including appropriate compliance with all procedures and policies.


  • Working knowledge of all building systems and components.  Ability to read building blueprints, specifications and operating manuals.  


  • An ability to deal with people and perform under stress and when confronted with an emergency situation. 


  • Knowledge of local safety and building codes and requirements and desire to keep up with current trends in school facilities management.


  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft products, Google applications, and work-order systems.


  • Ability to handle several projects at the same time and to work with various school and volunteer organizations.


  • Good written and verbal communication skills.


  • Ability to meet facility insurance requirements for school vehicle operators.  Class B commercial drivers license or ability to attain one within ninety days of employment.


  • Regular attendance is required for successful completion of job duties.

WORKING CONDITIONS


  • Workday regularly includes multiple or conflicting demands, deadlines and time pressures. Must be willing to be on-call 24 hours a day, except during scheduled time off.


  • Ability to lift 50-80 pounds when necessary.


  • Work requires considerable physical effort and manual dexterity in both hot and cold temperatures for extended periods of time.


  • Able to work in inclement weather if necessary.


  • Other activities include walking, standing, bending, kneeling, lifting, talking, hearing and visual acuity.
