Job Description

Shipt is growing and we are searching for a Software Engineering Manager to join our team! In this role, you will lead a team of talented engineers building scalable, distributed, and highly performant services that power every aspect of the Shipt ecosystem. You will be working on services that are utilized by tens of thousands of customers and shoppers on a daily basis.

Your Responsibilities


  • Lead a team to design, build, test, deploy and maintain services (mostly backend)


  • Actively participate in the design and architecture process for new services across teams


  • Instrument your services with metrics and tracing, so you always have a clear picture of how things are operating


  • Participate in code reviews within your team and frequently with other teams


  • Mentor team members and contribute to building a strong consistent engineering culture


  • Work with other departments on collaborative projects


Requirements


  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related discipline


  • 10+ years of software development experience building customer-facing products and services


  • Must have 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams building services, data systems, APIs and web applications


  • Must have experience designing and delivering distributed, highly available, large scale, high performing applications


  • Demonstrated excellent communications, organization, and time management skills


Nice to Haves


  • Experience and skills in establishing and improving metrics-based processes


  • Customer-first and results-oriented mindset and the ability to make practical decisions when making engineering choices


  • Deep organization capabilities, especially in influence, collaboration and communication with ability to develop strong alliances cross-functionally


  • Experience with Go, Ruby, or Python


  • Experience with SQL, NoSQL Databases (Dynamo, Mongo, Couchdb, etc.)


  • Experience with In-memory datastores and caches (Redis, Memcached, etc.)
