Role objective

This key role on the U.S. Engagement & People Experience team will lead internal communications across U.S. offices through solid partnership with People & Culture, America's Marketing, Global Communications and business operations teams.

Manage, execute and evolve internal communications services to ensure all employees are kept informed and engaged through various channels, such as intranet, newsletters, social media and email.

Work closely with senior leadership and especially, People & Culture, to establish messaging consistency across departments with a goal of keeping people informed and engaged. This also includes communicating internal response on items such as crisis management, structural changes, change projects and key business updates.

Bring creativity and human touch to internal communications, seeking to communicate versus simply inform. Craft inspirational content that supports our aspirational culture and values.

Key result areas

Overall responsibilities

Establish and execute an internal communications strategy in partnership with senior leaders to keep employees informed.

Ensure internal communications messages are consistent across all mediums

Document internal communications processes and ensure internal communications processes are followed at all times.

Create engaging templates and messages, ensure internal messaging and communications are consistent and aligned to our Global brand.

Write organizational messages as needed

Establish, track and report key performance indicators and report on progress regularly

Maintain ongoing knowledge of latest internal communications trends and best practices

Seek regular feedback from the business to evolve and enhance internal communications

Serve as subject matter expert, exploring and supporting the implementation new communications channels, such as internal social media

Manage communication calendar to ensure consistency and timing of messaging

Conduct periodic internal communications audits

Lead Hays U.S. public relations initiatives such as Top Workplace and Best Places to Work

Establish rewards and recognition templates, cadence and communication frequency

Ensure organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to people and stakeholders, including leadership communications writing support.

Plan, edit and/or write content for Hays U.S. monthly newsletters, monthly results wrap up and staff intranet, maintain business communication cadence

Edit and write content for Hays U.S. intranet pages

Form key messaging communications around key ongoing initiatives, such as Hays Employer Value Proposition (EVP) and Hays Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, Your Voice, Annual Kick-Off, Award Trips and other key programs, in partnership with People & Culture team.

Serve as Communication workstream owner on cross-functional projects

Provide U.S Senior Executives with support with drafting company-wide messages/scripts, decks and any crisis management related communications

Deliver presentations and/or create presentations for Executive Leadership at company events, such as annual kick-off meeting

Provide writing support, such as articles and blogs, to Executive Leadership as needed; coordinate external speaking events

Leadership & culture management

Develop and maintain a high performance, high service culture

Develop strong relationship with front and back office leadership - CEO, People & Culture, People & Development, People Operations, People Relations, Corporate Services and Business Leaders

Develop strong relationship with and appropriate regional and global leads; collaborate closely with Americas Marketing

Conduct regular meetings with stakeholders and leaders to solicit feedback

Lead by example and exhibit behaviour aligned with Hays values

Demonstrate support of corporate initiatives

Minimum 5-7 years' experience in an internal communications role

Educational background and/or training in journalism, writing, public relations and/or communications

Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills as well as the journalistic ability to source stories from employees and leaders

Proven graphic design capabilities

Intermediate to advanced MS Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Suite. Indesign experience, a plus.

Intermediate to advanced understanding of digital and video communication

Basic understanding of managing company intranet pages

Proven strong presentation and speaking skills

Ability to clearly articulate Hays U.S. key messaging

Possesses strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including the confidence to interact with senior executives

Solid experience in briefing writing and internal communications framework building

Comfortable working in a matrix organization, and able to influence multiple groups

Demonstrates clear communication skills and is able to gain the buy-in of senior stakeholders

Is self motivated and driven
