Job Description:

Job Description

Starting as early as Spring 2020; open until the position is filled

Position Description:

We have multiple Postdoc and Ph.D. position openings at Stevens Institute of Technology, funded by Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) focusing on Energy Efficiency and Utilization at all levels of power and energy systems. The Postdoc positions are available immediately, and the Ph.D. positions can start in Spring/Fall 2021. Applications will be processed as they arrive until all the positions are filled.

This interdisciplinary project involves faculty from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, School of Business, and School of Systems and Enterprises at Stevens. Postdoc and Ph.D. students will be primarily associated with one department/school, while regularly working with the entire faculty advisory team (Dr. Lei Wu from Electrical and Computer Engineering, Dr. Somayeh Moazeni from School of Business, and Dr. Philip Odonkor from School of Systems and Enterprises).

The project focuses on data analytics, stochastic and dynamic optimization, systems modeling, and data-driven control approaches to explore energy efficiency and utilization of transmission and distribution networks, connected cities and communities, smart buildings, and individual consumers. Examples of interested research topics include:

  • Developing mathematical modeling, simulation, and optimization approaches to improve the operational efficiency of electricity transmission and distribution systems;

  • Investigating market frameworks to support peer-to-peer energy transactions and tailor incentive mechanisms while maintaining the operability and reliability of the power grid and energy distributed systems;

  • Analyzing real-time optimal behavior to augment building efficiencies in conjunction with smart metering and to enhance community resiliency via smart microgrids.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in power systems, renewable energy, or mathematical modeling, simulation, and optimization. Past experience on smart and connected communities, microgrid modeling, monitoring, and control, and building energy management are especially encouraged to apply.

Please direct any questions about the position to Dr. Wu (lei.wu@stevens.edu), Dr. Somayeh Moazeni (smoazeni@stevens.edu), and Dr. Philip Odonkor (podonkor@stevens.edu).
