Job Description

The Washington Post is looking for a night editor to lead our regional news coverage. This is a demanding position that requires agility and creativity. Stories that break at night are varied and can include police news, politics, transportation, educationorother subjects. The night editor must have great news judgment to determine what to chase immediately. The successful candidate will be decisive and fast, prioritizing digital coverage but also making room in print when appropriate.

The night editoralso will edit postsfor many of Local'ssectionsthat will publish the next morning. Because the night editor works with people across the newsroom, collegiality is a must. The ability to multitask is also critical, given the demands of breaking news.

This position is based in the Washington newsroom andwill not beeligible for remote workonce we resume normal operations. This editor will work Sunday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to midnight.
