Job Description:

Arcadis is currently seeking a Senior Environmental Planner to support environmental planning efforts, for utility infrastructure maintenance and repair programs throughout California (San Francisco, CA, Concord, CA, Roseville, CA, or San Luis Obispo, CA).

Primary responsibilities include:


  • Serve as a project manager and leader related to environmental planning and permitting projects.
  • Prepare and review technical analyses and documents, proposals and/or qualifications information.
  • Technical and financial management of environmental planning, permitting and compliance tasks and projects.
  • Provide support and expertise for environmental planning and permitting.
  • Maintain an understanding of emerging regulations and industry requirements.
  • Work closely with business development and project delivery teams to win and deliver projects.
  • Developing execution strategies for planning and permitting projects
  • Mentoring staff to expand their understanding of technical and business aspects.

Key Attributes:


  • A firm understanding of state and federal permit requirements and familiarity with local/county jurisdiction and California agency notification requirements and ability to develop strategic planning and permitting execution strategies for clients on larger scale projects and programs
  • Proficiency in proejct management including an understanding of estimating and managing costs for environmental planning projects
  • Knowledge of the current California regulatory framework and market trends
  • Excellent organizational, written (including email) and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to work with a team to identify and support winning work with commercial clients
  • Knowledge of California and federal permit requirements
  • Experience preparing CEQA and NEPA documentation
  • Previous experience in the planning, permitting, and/or supporting the construction, reconstruction or maintenance of electric or gas transmission facilities, or other similar type of infrastructures (i.e., water, sewer, oil and gas, etc.)
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive reports/permit applications.
  • Willingness to travel overnight in California up to 15% of time #LI-CA1

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Planning, Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, Engineering or related field
  • 10 years of experience in the environmental field

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Masters degree
  • Previous experience with linear utility infrastructure programs
