Medtronic Minneapolis, Minnesota, is looking for an Animal Research Technician III for a weekday shift (Monday-Friday; 7am-3:30pm) with occasional holiday and weekend work required.
A Day in the Life
In this role you will perform a variety of veterinary technician and animal husbandry duties in a laboratory setting.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Know and maintain compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and all other applicable regulations and guidelines as they apply to the non-clinical research environment.
Adhere to standard operating procedures, work instructions, department guidelines, policies, and study protocols when completing the following:
Animal Husbandry
Animal Handling
Animal Observation
Documentation
Data Collection
Housekeeping
Stocking Supplies
Maintaining and Operate Equipment
Cage Room Rotation
Medication Calculation and Administration
Sample Collection
Animal Treatments
Patient Care and Pain management
Pre and Post-Operative Care
Animal Recovery
Participate in the overall function of the Research Operations department which may include
Late shift coverage
Animal/employee training
Study support
Continuous improvement processes
Support of department goals
Meeting facilitation
Perform computer and clerical functions to ensure organized and accurate reporting of animal observations, tasks, and data collection.
Assist the team in the completion of daily tasks as individual duties are completed.
GLP Requirements:
Conform to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and documentation that applies to your work area. This includes proper documentation techniques, updating the SOPs, training on the SOPs and knowledge of the GLP regulations that apply to their area.
Follow the documentation requirements provided by the SOPs and the policies of the department. This includes proper formatting of the protocols, reports, and SOPs that are generated and revised in the department. Adhere to the SOPs and facility policies that are relevant to the activities.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience and may require vocational or technical education or certification in addition to prior work experienc e.
Nice to Have
Associates Degree in Veterinary Science or Bachelors Degree in relevant field
AALAS Certification at the ALAT, LAT or LATG level
Veterinary Technician Certification
An understanding of animal use in a research environment.
Able to read, understand and follow department and facility procedures and policies.
Knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and anesthesia.
Knowledge and experience in post-operative care, critical patient care, and pain management.
Knowledge and understanding of anesthesia and patient monitoring equipment.
Knowledge of animal and human disease states.
Knowledge of cardiovascular and neuro systems in a variety of species.
Knowledge of imaging systems (X-Ray, MRI, CT, fluoroscopy, ultrasound).
Experience working with computer applications and web-based applications.
