ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES TECHNICIAN
JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Environmental Services Manager or Team Leader, the Environmental Services Technician will perform a variety of patient restocking, housekeeping, laundry and minor maintenance duties to maintain the hospital in a clean, sanitary and attractive condition. Some assignments will require the operation of large floor equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION
Among other duties, performs routine cleaning, vacuuming, waxing and buffing of departments, restrooms, hallways, stairways, and associated locations.Collects office, patient, bio-hazard trash and soiled linen from receptacles and disposes into designated areas.Utilizes appropriate chemicals and supplies according to manufacture direction, policy and procedure.Follows all infection control, sanitation and safety practicesOperates and maintains cleaning equipment.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Educational Requirements
High School Diploma/Equivalent preferred.
Licensure, Certification and RegistrationWork Orientation and ExperienceKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesOther Requirements Specific to Assigned Area
Prefer one (1) year housekeeping and/or Laundry experience in a healthcare environment
Ability to read, write, add and subtract.Ability to follow oral and written instructions.Must have knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their use or ability to be trained.Must be skilled in the use of small electrical equipment (vacuums, etc.)Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods.Ability to bend, stoop, and crouch for prolonged periods.Ability to lift and move equipment up to twenty (20) pounds.Ability to work cooperatively around patients and other staff members.Ability to maintain flexibility in work assignment and schedule.
Specific assignments require knowledge of and ability to operate heavy equipment.

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
TOOLS/EQUIPMENT USED
Routinely uses dusters, brooms, mops, buckets and cleaning chemicals. Specific assignments require use of rotary scrubber, floor extractor, floor vacuum, buffer machines, washer and dryer.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS
Regular or continuous risk of exposure to body fluids, infectious waste or blood borne diseases. Subject to chemicals, slippery floors, dust, fumes, odors and aerosol sprays. Employees are expected to exercise good judgment in the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to established protocol.
