Job Description:

Position Summary:  Recreation is responsible for planning and maintaining daily activities that engage our residents.  Also responsible for required documentation and volunteer program.


Education:  High School Degree or GED required. Associates or bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy or other related fields preferred.


Experience: 1- 2 years of experience working with geriatric patients in an activity role preferred.


Certifications: Certified by NCCAP as an Activity Professional Certified (APC), Activity Director Certified (ADC), CTRS or Activity Consultant Certified (ACC) preferred.

RESPONSIBLE TO:          Administrator


QUALIFICATIONS:



  1. High School degree or GED

  2. Qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional who is licensed or registered and eligible for certification by a recognized accrediting body on or after October 1, 1990, OR two years experience in a social or recreational program within the last five years (one of which was full-time in a patient activities program in a health care setting), OR qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant OR has completed a training course approved by the state.

  12. Ability to supervise others in a firm, fair, and consistent manner.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:



  1. Able to lift 60 to 70 pounds occasionally

  2. Able to be on feet 2-5 hours a day

  3. Be able to move throughout center without assistance

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Assess each individual patient to determine activity interests and needs.

  2. Provide therapeutic activities which meet the individual interests and needs of each patient.

  3. Provide activities which meet the physical, social, mental, emotional, and/or spiritual needs of patients while providing an atmosphere of fun and enjoyment.

  4. Maintain all required records (see Recreation Manual).

  5. Coordinate and maintain an active volunteer program.

  6. Maintain good public relations with the community by contacting and informing local clubs, businesses, schools, etc. of center services and goals.

  7. Order and maintain supplies for use in the Activity Program.

  8. Participate in center newsletter.

  9. Participate in fund-raising projects.

  10. Plan and conduct in-service programs for staff at least twice per year as needed.

  11. Attend center meetings as required.

  12. Be aware of NHC standards and abide by the 20 Better Way

  13. Be aware of and follow all state, federal, company and center policies and procedures.

  14. Maintain ongoing Quality Assurance/Rapid Cycle studies.

  15. Be aware of and follow HIPAA regulations.

  16. Keep Administrator informed of planned activities, problems and suggested solutions.

  17. Supervise Recreation Coordinators/Assistants.
