Golder is seeking a Graduate Geologist to work in our Mt. Laurel, New Jersey office. From this location, our team provides services to US and international clients in the manufacturing and other industrial sectors. The entry level position offers an opportunity to join a fast-paced team that provides sound solutions to challenges on environmental investigation and remediation projects. The work entails a variety of office-related and field activities to complete approved scopes of work, document activities, solve problems that arise, and proactively communicate with project managers.
The selected candidate must be comfortable using technology, such as with data collection, and working in the field both independently and with project teams to support environmental investigations.
Responsibilities of the role will include:
Engage in a team environment, working closely with project managers and co-workers to complete work programs
Safely perform work in the office and field; fieldwork may occur in all seasonal weather conditions, using equipment (with an ability to lift and move approximately 50 pounds without assistance) and operating vehicles on behalf of the company
Participate in a range of field programs, including the collection, handling, and shipment of samples of various environmental media (e.g., groundwater, soil, sediment, soil vapor, indoor air) in compliance with State and Federal requirements
Perform surface/subsurface site investigations including drilling, classifying soils, coring and logging rock, installing wells, and geophysical and aquifer testing
Coordinate and provide oversight of subcontractors (e.g., laboratories, drillers, surveyors)
Operate, maintain, and monitor remedial systems
Accurately document (e.g., field forms, field notebooks, daily reports) and verbally communicate site conditions, observations, and activities
Contribute to environmental monitoring and technical reports, including compiling field and analytical data
Local and national travel typically not exceeding five days at a time, with possible opportunities for long-term remote assignments
Required:
Bachelor's degree in environmental or engineering geology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, or related fields
Computer skills and experience with industry standard commercial computer software including Microsoft Office
Excellent verbal skills with strong writing and organizational skills, a positive attitude, and ability to work both independently and within groups
Strong problem-solving abilities and resourcefulness
Understanding the importance of health & safety as a top priority and an enthusiasm to participate in Golder's associated programs
Desired:
Master's degree within the geoscience field
Progress towards Professional Geologist certification
Experience in site remediation, including internships
Experience with State and Federal environmental regulatory programs
Familiarity with field practices such as geological logging and the collection of environmental monitoring data using industry standard meters, instrumentation, and techniques
Familiarity with geological, hydrogeological, geochemical, and GIS data presentation and modeling software
40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER and 8-hour refresher (as applicable) are required for site work, preferential consideration for candidates with this training
