Job Description

The Automation Specialist will be based in Manchester, CT. The specialist will be located primarily in building 2 and 3 of the multi building manufacturing site. The Specialist will support current equipment in production and also be responsible for launching new programs into production with a large focus on scrap reduction, increased equipment efficiencies, training and continuous process improvements. The Specialist will work closely with the site Automation Engineering Group on all aspects of the equipment.

Here is a glimpse of what you'll do...


  • Maintain continuous system operation by adjusting, repairing, replacing, or modifying automation/robotic system components

  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and components and return to serviceability

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance actions on all subsystems and related components

  • Perform preventative maintenance of robotic and process support equipment

  • Understanding of PLCs

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical diagrams including complex automated system drawings.

  • Analyzes engineering test results, and implements changes to resolve problems.

  • Assist automation engineering team in the qualification process of automated systems.

  • Records procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or method.

  • Maintains software, documentation and equipment to the latest revision or operational specifications. 

  • Assists engineers in developing and designing hardware and software required for all automation solutions per specifications.

  • Trains other technicians and operators on products, processes and equipment.

  • Assists engineers with outside third party automation developments

  • Organizes documentation (specifications, schematics, and procedures).

Here is some of what you'll need (required)...



  • Associate degree in related field or equivalent education or 3-5 years experience working with industrial automation equipment.

  • Ability to troubleshoot electronic and mechanical equipment in a timely manner.


  • Good communication & Problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrates advanced technical skills.

  • Has awareness of new technologies/techniques.

  • Demonstrates basic functional and/or process knowledge and participates in process.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, maintenance manuals and engineering sketches.

  • Electronic Assembly: schematics, PCB loading, mechanical assembly

  • Experience with industrial automation in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience with servo motors and amplifiers.

  • Experience troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems.

  • Ability to handle small components, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs

  • Proper use of power tools and measuring equipment

  • Strong awareness of safety

  • Experience with PLCs, ladder logic, structured text coding.

  • Should have good practical experience in PLC – Systems for robotic

  • High-regulated environment experience (Clean room)
