Overall Purpose: Responsible for managing and executing proactive and reactive media relations in support of AT&T Consumer’s mobility business with a focus on the prepaid wireless portfolio: Cricket Wireless and AT&T Prepaid. Serving as a member of the consumer media mobility team, this position will support postpaid campaigns and work collaboratively with public relations partners to develop strategic media plans that drive coverage and positive net sentiment.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Plan and assist in the creation and delivery of strategic PR plans, which includes daily engagement with reporters, writing press statements, crafting timely and relevant pitch notes in coordination with internal business partners and public relations agencies.
Build media relationships with top-tier national news outlets and identify proactive opportunities to earn favorable press coverage, particularly those that advance the organization’s business priorities.
Expert knowledge of media personnel and outlets, advising internal clients on editorial slants and reporting style, and organizing media briefings or backgrounder discussions.
Review all company-related daily media coverage to ensure editorial is factually accurate, otherwise quickly challenging reporters to pursue a correction or clarification.
Serve as a trusted advisor to internal business partners who need to be aware of upcoming stories that may result in negative publicity; attending relevant meetings as needed; preparing and facilitating executive interviews.
Maintain a keen understanding of the company’s prepaid mobility products and how Cricket Wireless and AT&T Prepaid customer value propositions offer competitive differentiation.
Stay abreast of consumer and industry trends, exhibiting subject matter expertise on wireless plans and offers, the latest advantages associated with new devices and accessories, and the evolving migration to 5G networks from existing 4G/LTE and other legacy networks.
Demonstrate superior organizational skills, ability to quickly respond to urgent press requests and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Bachelor’s degree preferred
5-7 years of public relations/communications experience either in a corporate and/or agency setting
Maintain existing relationships with top tier national business press
Ability to work with senior executives providing counsel on media opportunities, messaging and overall external communications
Background working for a communications, media and/or technology company desired
Previous experience in Journalism a plus
Outstanding verbal and written communications skills
Ability to confidently work with senior executives at the officer level
Ability to be on call for press inquiries, which may require being available outside of normal working hours when needed
