We are looking for a Scientist II with a strong foundation in chemistry, materials science and/ or polymer chemistry to join our team. This position is primarily responsible for biocompatible coatings development and other chemistry layers for next generation continuous glucose sensors. In collaboration with internal and external partners/vendors, the candidate will plan, initiate and execute studies aimed at developing various coating formulations, characterize using analytical techniques, conduct pre-clinical testing and interpret results. Strong organizational and communication skills are required to collaborate and work under the supervision of Senior R&D leadership. The individual must be able to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, train others & delegate work as appropriately to complete required activities in a timely manner.

A DAY IN THE LIFE:

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary groups to design & execute independent coating formulations research aligned with divisional needs.

  • Collaborate with appropriate functions and develop coating process methods to produce prototypes & devices, operate various coating equipments & troubleshoot issues that may arise

  • Utilize materials characterization and/or analytical techniques to characterize coatings & develop process-structure-property correlations

  • Assist in the development of predictive in vitro assays/analytical test methods including creating suitable fixtures to evaluate coating performance in prototypes & devices

  • Develop experimental tools & utilize design of experiments (DOE) to evaluate designs & optimize processes

  • Independently plan & execute in vitro & pre-clinical studies and analyze experimental data with minimal supervision. Make detailed observations & interpret results in a critical manner.

  • Conduct briefings with team leads within job function. Create technical documentation in the form of operating procedures, engineering plans, engineering reports & presentations.

  • Engage in collaborations with external material technologies as well as internal/external vendors/service groups.

  • Support technology transfers and develop working relationships with various CROs/CMOs

    Must Have: Minimum Requirements
    BASIC MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION, THE FOLLOWING BASIC QUALIFICATIONS MUST BE EVIDENT ON YOUR RESUME

    Bachelors degree required
    Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 0 years of experience


    NICE TO HAVE:


  • BS or MS in Materials Science, Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Biochemical/Chemical Engineering or related discipline.

  • Industry or academic experience in one or more of the following: Coating formulations, Drug Delivery, Polymer Chemistry, Coating/Surface Deposition Processes

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in medical device/pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry or academic thesis research

  • Coating formulation development experience (polymer based coating formulations, drug delivery coatings, enzyme formulations etc)

  • Exposure to various chemical & physical coating application processes (spray, spin, dip, die- etc)

  • Knowledge of surface modification chemistries & techniques

  • Knowledgeable in material characterization & Surface analysis techniques such as XPS, XRD, SEM FTIR, DSC, Raman, AFM Optical Microscopy, etc

  • Experience with statistical analysis tools/techniques including DOE and associated software (Minitab, JMP, Design Expert etc)

  • Experience in Drug delivery applications, pre-clinical testing & pharmacokinetics

  • Highly self-driven & detail-oriented with good organization skills

  • Results-oriented driver and deliverer with a hands-on, can-do mentality

  • Out-of-the-box thinking in finding solutions to unexpected challenges
