Job Description:

SUMMARY

The Lead Instructor is responsible for teaching subject matter specific course(s) constructed in a blended (partially on ground/partially online) format.  While the Lead Instructor will be primarily responsible for online coursework and students, s/he may also be required to teach ground courses as necessary.  Whether online or on ground, the Lead Instructor’s primary task is to conduct courses and teach content in accordance with Concorde curriculum requirements and Concorde Standards and Mission to ensure that course competencies are met.  To accomplish this, the Course Lead Instructor must practice strong collaboration with, and leadership of the ground instructor(s) assigned to the course to ensure appropriate student participation, comprehension, and success.  All Concorde associates are required to display professionalism and uphold Concorde’s Mission and the core values of respect for the individual, integrity, teamwork, customer service, and achievement.

EXPECTATIONS

Prepare for teaching


  • Prepare for class starts by ensuring assigned sections are free from error, all due dates are set appropriately, digital materials are accessible, course(s) is/are paired correctly with any 3rd party tools, and every course home page is complete including contact information and student welcome

  • Review approved lesson/unit plans provided for the course

  • Keep informed of current standards related to his or her instructional area

Teach assigned course(s)


  • Follow approved curriculum/course outline(s)

  • Present material in an engaging and positive fashion in both synchronous and asynchronous modes online and, if necessary, on ground

  • Maintain an online classroom environment conducive to learning

  • Provide a minimum of one synchronous class session each week – a minimum of one hour in length

  • Host a minimum of two online office hours per week and promote student attendance

  • Respond to student communication within 24 hours – including on weekends

  • Initiate, monitor and participate frequently in student discussion posts – at a minimum four times each week and at least once on the weekend

  • Grade all assignments submitted by students within 72 hours

  • Provide robust feedback to help with student success, as well as grading based on rubrics provided

Support student success


  • Evaluate student progress

  • Collaborate with other instructor(s) and determine and implement strategies to improve student success

  • Frequently discuss high-risk students with the Program Director or Academic Dean

  • Reach out to students who are struggling or are high-risk

  • Supplement student material when needed

Keep accurate and timely records


  • Review student attendance to ensure accuracy

  • Maintain student records and grades

Professional and Academic Development


  • Continuously improve blended instruction techniques including completion of a minimum of one online/distance education training course per year

  • Encourage participation in student surveys at the end of each course/term, review, discuss with leadership, and revise classes and presentation tools and methods appropriately

  • Proactively research new teaching tools and techniques and present to leadership for possible adoption


  • Education requirements/work experience commensurate with program of instruction

  • Prior teaching experience, including online, preferred

  • Experience with the Canvas Learning Management system preferred

  • Successful completion of the Concorde Instructor Orientation course

  • Successful completion of the MaxKnowledge CM102 course

  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others

  • Must be able to read and follow lesson plans or guides, present educational information to participants in a clear fashion, address questions or concerns and utilize effective training/instructional methods to reinforce learning

  • Access to personal computer, broadband internet services, and other hardware/software required

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION


  • Faculty must have a high school diploma or its equivalent and a certificate of completion from a postsecondary institution in relevant subject area. (COE, TN)

  • Faculty must have a minimum of three years of practical experience in the last seven years in the subject area to be taught. (TN)

  • Experience with Medicaid/Medicare claims, scheduling, patient accounts, and patient billing

  • Coding experience, CPC or AAPC preferred

  • Prior teaching and management experience preferred

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
