Position Summary: The Fiber Splicer (Comm) performs premises cabling and running fiber optic cables underground. This position also determines solutions to any problems and issues that are preventing the fiber optic systems from performing optimally.

Essential Functions:

• Install Copper / Fiber Cables, Dress, Terminate, and Test.


• Troubleshoot.


• Installation of coaxial or fiber cabling, mounting supports and dressing of the cabling.


• Climbing and working off of a ladder.


• Ribbon Splicing and OTDR/Power Meter testing Single Mode Fiber.


• Installation of telecommunication equipment, racks, cabinets, cable ladder and misc. equipment, including transmission equipment, power, punch-down and dressing / labeling of components.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be able to use basic hand tools & equipment.


• Possess knowledge of setting up and programming RF and Fiber Test Equipment.


• Capable of physically bending, reaching and lifting up to 50 pounds.


• BICSI Installer or Technician Training preferred.


• Must be willing to travel.


• Must have his/her own tools.


• Must be reliable

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
