NDT Technician, Level III at Howmet Aerospace

Job Description:

This position has responsibility for controlling quality and technical functions for an NDT process within Howmet Castings. Follows quality procedures for specific discipline to include Visual, Ultrasonic, FPI and/or X-ray.


  • Supports management decisions through actions and communications.
  • Acts as a technical liason for production employees concerning process or product related issues in NTD activities
  • Confers with technicians, supervision, and engineering regarding process flow and product quality status.
  • Performs process control tests and audits, maintaining documentation in accordance to customer specifications and Howmet NDT manual.
  • Assists with Inspector training under direction of Level III.
  • Audits daily systems test, performs employee, product, and process audits for NDT activities.
  • Assist in inspections per customer specifications for acceptance of quality standards and method specifications.
  • Assists in developing internal and external process procedures with customer requirements.
  • Maintains files for specifications.
  • Reviews and approves PC's, AI's and Routings for NDT activities under the direction of the certified Level III for Structural Products.
  • Assists Level III with performing periodic tests, evaluations, product, employee and process audits.
  • Pursues elimination of waste, the improvement of equipment reliability and efficiency, and the reduction of operating costs. Recommends cost reductions and quality changes.
  • Acts as communication focal point for department Level II inspectors concerning process.
  • Assist in maintenance activities including work orders as required to keep the NDT departments functional.
  • Provides input for personnel performance evaluation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned .
Education:

This position requires a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Skills and Abilities :

Must be an effective communicator, problem solver, and team leader. Must have been certified as a Level II Reader in at least one of the NDT disciplines.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Experience :

This position requires one year of experience certified as NDT Level II with a technical bachelor degree or two years of experience as NDT Level II with a technical associate degree. Four years of experience as NDT Level II is required in lieu of a degree.

Vision requirements are per customer specifications and MIL STD 410E.
