Job Description:

INTRODUCTION

Denver7 is looking for an experienced journalist who has deep ties to the state of Colorado and has a deep rolodex and multiple sources. The ideal candidate will have a true understanding of the issues that are important to Coloradans and has the ability to recognize, set up and execute stories with content depth. It will be imperative to understand our "360" branding and have the ability to root out varied perspectives on each story. Coordinates coverage for a specific news show at least one day ahead for key stories as well as scheduled special event coverage.

WHAT YOU'LL DO


  • Consistently brainstorm 360 story ideas and multiple perspectives; use rolodex and sources to set-up experts that add depth to the stories

  • Work with sources and reporters to break stories

  • Create a daily coverage plan of compelling, relevant and timely local content for assigned show(s)

  • Collaborate with assigned show(s) executive producer(s) to ensure coverage being delivered aligns with the vision for show

  • Work with the production team to ensure advance planning is a key part of the assigned shows’ newscast development each day, so that there is depth and balance with breaking or overnight news

  • Network and cultivate local news sources in the coverage area that lead to compelling content

  • Work with team to research, write and produce content for multiple platforms

  • Coordinate with digital and social media staff to facilitate content delivery to those platforms

  • Set up and frequently conduct interviews for newscasts

  • May work with special projects team

  • Other duties as assigned

WHAT YOU'LL NEED


  • BS/BA in Journalism or related discipline

  • A minimum of 5 yrs. experience as a journalist in Colorado

WHAT YOU'LL BRING


  • Knowledge of local market strongly preferred with the ability to network and cultivate sources that lead to compelling content

  • Excellent verbal, written and social media communication skills

  • Working knowledge of industry technologies and practices

  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office, social media programs and newsroom computer systems, including iNews

  • Ability to collaborate well in a team

  • Effective problem resolution skills

  • Proficiency computer based editing, Final Cut Pro

  • Works with team to research, write and produce content for multiple platforms

  • Coordinates with digital and social media staff to facilitate content delivery to those platforms

  • May produce stories for special event programming

  • May set up interviews for newscasts

  • May work with special projects team

  • Other duties as assigned
