Job Title: UPS Flight Forward UAS Visual Observer Intern

Department:  Operations

Work Environment:  Majority of work will be in an outdoor environment.

JOB SUMMARY: This internship will introduce selected candidates to UPS Flight Forward’s Flight Operations department.  Interns will receive training to perform as a Remote Pilot in Command (RPIC) and UAS Technician. Following completion of training, interns will assist assigned RPICs conduct UAS flights under FAA Part 135 and 107 rules. Primary duties include conducting preflight inspections, performing RPIC duties and responsibilities under Part 107, performing Visual Observer duties under Part 135, and following company standard operating procedures to ensure safe UAS flights.

OTHER DUTIES: Document and complete pre/post UAS logs. Perform equipment testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Document inventory of UAS spares/components and maintenance actions. Communicate and coordinate with internal and external entities for safe flight operations.

ADDITONAL SKILLS: Experience working in a crew environment. Tech savvy. Mechanically inclined. FAA Private Pilot certificate highly desired.

REQUIRED SKILLS: EDUCATION

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited university pursuing an Aviation or UAS oriented degree or have graduated with an Aviation or UAS oriented degree within the past 24 months.

  • Must possess an FAA Remote Pilot Certificate

  • Collaborative: Use strong interpersonal skills to actively listen and communicate in ways that foster trust and show flexibility.

  • Easily adapt to varied roles on teams from follower to leader and change approach best for situation.

  • Able to complete tasks with limited supervision: ability to take ownership and ask for help when needed.

  • Strong written and oral communications.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access).

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Available to work 40 hours per week.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be a U.S. Citizen or National of the U.S., an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. for this employer
