Operations Manager (CTEC Converting)

Summary of Position:       

This position provides overall team leadership for the CTEC crews and the assets they operate in the areas safety, quality, cost, productivity, continuous improvement, housekeeping, good manufacturing practices (GMP), internal control, asset management, customer service, human resources and team capability development. In addition, this person will work closely with the Continuous Improvement (CI) & Capabilities, Reliability and Engineering teams at the manufacturing site and with the regional team. Incumbent will set objectives that will have a direct and significant impact on plant and sector results and in the delivery of customer service for Kimberly-Clark.

Scope: 

The Asset Leader Incumbent reports to the site Product System Manager. This role is responsible to effectively lead business objectives for the assigned assets.  This role will have interaction across business sectors and opportunities for involvement in broad based business projects.  Objectives typically are focused at the department and asset level for safety, quality, GMP, housekeeping, customer service, continuous improvement, productivity, cost, internal control, asset management, human resources and team capability development.

This role is responsible for a complex asset base with either number of assets, number of employees, asset complexity and/or business criticality. This role may also own a mill-wide process or standard. The incumbent may also be responsibility for mentoring M1 asset team leaders and/or operations consultants.

Key Customers:

Internal to Mill: Front line employees, Mill Management, Reliability Team, CI & Capabilities Team, Logistics, Engineering Teams

Internal to Region: Planning, Launch Program Managers, Operations Consultants, and other KCNA Supply Chain Teams and Management, Other Kimberly-Clark Facilities, Customers, Consumers

Accountabilities and Responsibilities    

Safety:


  • Support the loss control improvement process by championing and complying with critical safety rules.

  • Visibly demonstrate that safety is a core value by role modeling and ensuring compliance with safety procedures and maintaining a safe workplace.

  • Own development of safety improvement plans.

  • Ensure assets comply with pertinent housekeeping standards.

Quality: 


  • Demonstrate quality as a core value.

  • Responsible for understanding and holding team accountable for upholding K-C’s Quality policy and standards.

People:


  • Manage yourself in accordance with the One K-C Behaviors and values.

  • Lead with high expectations around safety and team support.

  • Drive partnerships and collaboration with other mill teams OPEX, Reliability, Training for Excellence teams to build capability within the Operations team.

  • Establish clear and concise strategic goals; and assign the resources and priorities to achieve those goals.

  • Demonstrate ownership of OPEX diagnostics of:

    • Mindsets, Behaviors, and Capabilities

    • Management Infrastructure

    • Operating Systems



  • Build capability and put systems in place to sustain sustainable year over year improvement.

Delivery/Cost:


  • Provide day-to-day direction to process leaders and asset teams. Arrange for proper support from reliability and platform engineers for plan of the day.

  • Manage cost of manufacturing (i.e. operating supplies, waste, labor, cost savings, etc.). Partner with reliability team to manage maintenance costs. Develop strategy and tools to deliver a budget. 

  • Collaborate with planning on the production schedule, rates, and sequence to deliver customer service.

  • Use effective business communication appropriately with all stakeholders, corporate support teams, employees and external contacts.

  • Lead operations teams to support mill/regional/global continuous improvement efforts and initiatives.

  • Develop and maintain an External Cost Savings (ECS) playbook with Financial Analysts.

  • Partner with Reliability on:

    • Autonomous Care Improvement Team and Quick Change (SMED)

    • Grade Change

    • Design for Reliability

    • Asset down planning, execution and reflection

    • Site strategic reliability plans

    • Reliability analytics



Education, Experience and Qualifications:


  • Position typically requires a bachelor’s in engineering, business or relevant discipline or 7 years of equivalent related experience.

  • The incumbent would typically have significant experience in Operations, Business, Engineering, Lean Manufacturing, and/or Maintenance.

  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge in the people management and/or technical areas of expertise (or aptitude to learn) described in the role.

  • Incumbent would possess demonstrated ability to organize, influence and lead a multi-functional team and foster a proactive team environment.

  • Work collaboratively and effectively with individuals across all levels of the organization.

Working Conditions:


  • Normal scheduled hours will vary based on the need to support a 24/7 Operation.

  • Flexibility to travel up to 15% for benchmarking and best practice sharing across KCNA.

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.

Dimensions:

Direct Reports: 50 or more- Process Operators, Hourly Leaders, trainers and safety reps. 

Indirect Reports: Platform engineers, Reliability Support.
